The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Ben Roethlisberger doesn't have a broken thumb, but an option given to him was to put the thumb in a cast and end his season. He's decided to try playing through the pain of what apparently is a strained tendon or ligament and a bone chip. He's been told he won't do more damage by playing.

The Steelers and Ben Roethlisberger aren't saying what exactly is wrong with his right thumb, despite reports that it is broken, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. However, he said he might need surgery on it after the season and will have to wear the brace he wore Sunday for the rest of the year. "It's pretty bad; it's painful," he said. "It affects pretty much every pass because I can't put as much pressure on the thumb. It makes the ball wobble a little bit more, not quite a tight spiral."
