After being limited in practice on Wednesday receiver Michael Clayton was back on the field practicing fully, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Our View:Having Clayton on the field is big for the Buccaneers. The only way Clayton wouldn't play is if something happens in Friday's practice.

Receiver Michael Clayton was limited on Wednesday with a hamstring injury, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Our View:Clayton has only 20 receptions for 196 yards and no touchdowns. That is an average of only 9.8 yards.

Receiver Michael Clayton said he expected to start for Joey Galloway on Sunday, which did not please head coach Jon Gruden, according to the Tampa Tribune. "A couple players have already spoken that (Galloway is) not going (to play), but I'll make that decision, okay?I'll decide who starts, too. As long as I have the title here as head coach, I'll do that," said Gruden.

Our View:Clayton certainly did himself no favors by pronouncing himself the starter before Gruden did. Even if he does start, his fantasy prospects are slim, as they have been ever since his great rookie year.

Michael Clayton was inactive for Week 1, but is expected to start at flanker Sunday, according to the St. Petersburg Times. Joey Galloway is expected to miss the game with his right foot sprain. Clayton said, "It's a big opportunity. It's one that I've been waiting for. I've been told I will be starting, so we'll see what happens. There's a lot of opportunity for any wide receiver who will be out there."

Our View:Even though he is starting, he does not merit fantasy attention with a tough match-up at Chicago.

Michael Clayton is active today for the Bucs after being a healthy inactive in Week 1.

Our View:Clayton is taking the place of Maurice Stovall, who is out with a neck injury.

After being placed on the inactive list Week 1 against the Saints, Michael Clayton hopes to get on the field soon. In Week 1 the Bucs went with receivers Joey Galloway, Antonio Bryant, Maurice Stovall, Ike Hilliard and rookie Dexter Jackson, according to Pewterreport.com.

Our View:Michael Clayton burst onto the scene his rookie year but since then has battled injuries and inconsistent play. It sounds like the only way Clayton gets in the lineup is if one of the receivers ahead of him is injured.

The Tampa Tribune reports that Jon Gruden had plenty of good things to say about wide receiver Michael Clayton on Wednesday. "Well, we know he’s a very good player. What I’ve seen is five or six consecutive days where he’s put his fist down and said, ‘I’m a go-to receiver.’ If he continues to do that, he’s going to be a big part of this offense again. Hopefully he stays healthy and continues doing exactly what he’s doing. He’s focused, he’s all business and he’s running all kinds of routes. He’s running inside routes, outside routes, and he’s showing very good stamina. And we know he can run with the ball after the catch. So we like what he’s doing but we’ve got a long way to go.”

Our View:All Mike has to do to get in the starting lineup is beat out 64-year-old Ike Hilliard and Antonio Bryant who has not played since 2006. Clayton caught seven touchdowns as a rookie in 2004 but has managed just one more in the three seasons since then. Gruden may have been laying a heavy dose of coach speak on us or Clayton may have finally turned his ship around.

Michael Clayton appears to be "making strides" during minicamp, the Tampa Tribune reports.

Our View:We'll believe it when we see Clayton playing well in preseason games. The former rookie star likely still has plenty of skills, but we need more than a sidenote after three disappointing seasons.

With Joey Galloway turning 37 this fall, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers appear to have a pressing need for another big-play receiver, but head coach Jon Gruden believes the solution may come from within, according to the Tampa Tribune. "Michael Clayton has had four different injuries four years in a row," Gruden said. "I tell you this - he looks good right now. He's going to have one heck of an offseason. Maurice Stovall's coming back off a big elbow surgery, but when you see those two guys walking around, you feel good about your receivers. You see Bryant walking around the locker room, you feel a little better.” We heard these same things about Clayton and Stovall last offseason, and both of them turned out to be major busts. Bryant was out of the league in 2007, and has had off-the-field issues. This sounds like offseason “coach speak” to us.

Michael Clayton could start in 2008, according to the St. Petersberg Times. Ike Hilliard is getting older and the newly acquired Antonio Bryant hasn't played since 2006. Clayton is believed to get an opportunity to compete for a starting spot, assuming the club doesn't address the position in the draft.
