Michael Clayton has a high-ankle sprain and is unlikely to play this week. The Bucs will miss his blocking, but he's been nothing as a receiver since his rookie year.

Bucs receiver Michael Clayton sprained his right ankle during the 23-16 loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday. Head coach Jon Gruden said that he would know the severity of the sprain after receiving the results of Clayton’s MRI.

Michael Clayton was benched Sunday after making two big mistakes. "He dropped the ball. Then he fumbled the ball," Gruden said, according to the St. Petersburg Times. "I'm sure he's mad at me for taking him out of the football game." Considering Clayton only has two catches for 23 yards on the season, he shouldn't be anywhere near your fantasy lineup anyway.

The Buccaneers are shopping around Michael Clayton in trade talks. Although the team plans to take a committee approach with their No. 2 receiver, the St. Petersburg Times reports that he has fallen behind Joey Galloway, Maurice Stovall, David Boston, and Ike Hilliard on the depth chart.

Michael Clayton left practice on Wednesday with what head coach Jon Gruden described as a pulled muscle, according to the St. Petersburg Times. He is currently listed as a backup for the No. 2 wide receiver job behind Maurice Stovall.

Michael Clayton acknowledges that he is in a battle with Maurice Stovall for the No. 2 wideout job. “It’s real intense,” Clayton told Wednesday’s St. Petersburg Times. “The guy is good. He’s ready to play right now, and he can do some things in the red zone that not a lot of guys can do. I think it’s real important as an offense to get everybody in the game because that’s how we’ll maximize talent.”

Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden made it clear once again that Michael Clayton will be fighting for his starting job this summer. “Clayton is a good player, but the guys around him are getting good, too,” Gruden told Tuesday’s Tampa Tribune. “It’s going to be very interesting.” Clayton has been limited to only one touchdown catch in his last 26 games.
