Offensive tackle Vernon Carey took a shot to the right hip in the third quarter of Sunday's opener against the Jets. He was on the ground for a short period before jogging off. Ikechuku Ndukwe took his place for one play before Carey returned.

Our View:Thank goodness. The Dolphins have enough other things to worry about on their offensive line. Carey needs to stay healthy if this offense is going to help fantasy teams.

Starting offensive tackle Vernon Carey is entering the last year of his rookie contract with the Dolphins and it looks like he'll play this season without a new deal according to the Sun-Sentinel. "It doesn't matter," Carey said when asked about pursuing a new deal. He added, "That's not important to me right now. What's important to me is winning. I want to be part of a winning team."

Our View:Winning? Good luck with that. Carey is a solid tackle and if he remains healthy he will have a big payday ahead of him. Not having a guaranteed deal likely means he will be giving 100% each play which is good news for the Dolphins.

There are holes in the Miami Dolphins' offensive line, although they're not the kind running backs Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams would prefer to see, according to the Palm Beach Post. Head coach Tony Sparano recently provided a rundown of how the offensive line looks with the NFL Draft three weeks away. Vernon Carey is still is listed at left tackle despite thoughts of a switch to the right side. Samson Satele will return as the center, and incoming free agent Justin Smiley will be the right guard. "At left guard there is a little bit of a hole, and right now right tackle has a hole," Sparano said. Keep this in mind when drafting Miami skill position players this year. Currently Drew Mormino and Trey Darilek are the primary candidates to fill the previously mentioned holes. The Dolphins drafted Mormino in the sixth round last year but placed him on injured reserve in September with a shoulder injury. Darilek was acquired through free agency after a season in the CFL.

Left tackle Vernon Carey suffered a minor knee injury during the first quarter of Saturday's preseason opener. "He probably could have come back and played," coach Cam Cameron told the Miami Herald. "I was more nervous that maybe he got rolled up with that kind of play." With Carey out, the Dolphins played with three rookie linemen throughout most of the first half.
