Kenechi Udeze will undergo a bone marrow transplant to treat his leukemia this week, according to ESPN.com. His brother was a perfect match, which greatly increase his chances of pulling through this illness.

Our View:Udeze will not play football in 2008 but may resume his career at a later date. The Vikings have stepped up, placing him on the reserved/non-football injury list and will pay him his salary for the season, which is a little more than $800,000.

Kenechi Udeze will undergo a bone marrow transplant in early July, according to the Star Tribune. Udeze is battling an acute form of leukemia, and said, "Right now I'm doing pretty good. I'm actually getting tired of people asking me how I'm doing because I know I'm going to be all right, and I want everybody to start thinking the same way."

Our View:He will undergo the procedure with his older brother, Thomas Barnes, who is a 100 percent match. He will not play in 2008, but hopes to resume his career.

The Vikings placed defensive end Kenechi Udeze on the reserve-non-football-illness list over the weekend. The move means he will not play in 2008, but the Vikings will pay him his $807,500 salary. "He can focus on getting well. He's done a great job with that so far. He's been positive. He's been upbeat," head coach Brad Childress tells NFL.com. Udeze was diagnosed in February with an acure form of leukemia.

Our View:Udeze offered some positive news in late April, and we continue to hope for a strong recovery. We can't care about football when a player is fighting a battle like this.

Kenechi Udeze announced a pair of remarkable developments in his three-month fight against leukemia; the disease is in remission, and the Minnesota Vikings' defensive end has found a bone marrow donor, according to ESPN.

Our View:Udeze did not rule out participation in the upcoming NFL season, but for now putting the pads back on is not a short-term goal. He must still undergo chemotherapy twice a week and has more progress to make before his body is back to normal.

Kenechi Udeze, who is currently undergoing chemotherapy after recently being diagnosed with a form of leukemia, is expected to miss the entire 2008 season, according to the Star Tribune. Reportedly, the Minnesota Vikings aren’t counting on Udeze being on the field anytime soon, and are concerned only about his recovery. ”My mind right now is just with him going through the process of getting well,” HC Brad Childress said. “That’s all the focus right now.” Childress said Udeze has remained very upbeat, adding, “If anybody is going to beat this thing it’s going to be Kenechi Udeze because he is a positive, positive guy. I get a smile on my face every time I go over and see him.” Udeze faces a prolonged stay in the hospital, and we wish him and his family nothing but the best during this difficult time.
