Newsbreakers
November 19, 2008
Stuart Schweigert has signed with the Lions, according to the Detroit News.

Our View:The 2004 rookie spent four seasons with the Raiders, but was bounced around between the Redskins and Giants this season prior to landing in Detroit. The club needed depth with Gerald Alexander on IR and with Dwight Smith slowly recovering from a foot injury.

Safety Stuart Schweigert was signed by the New York Giants after being released by the Washington Redskins earlier in the week, according to the AP.

Our View:Schweigert had a solid campaign last season with Oakland, but was cut, then cut again by Washington. He can certainly help a club, at the very least on special teams.
August 4, 2008
Safety Stuart Schweigert has been released by the Washington Redskins, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:After Schweigert was a big part of the Raiders defense for four seasons, they cut him. The 'Skins subsequently signed him this offseason, but he was third on the depth chart behind Reed Doughty and Kareem Moore.
June 2, 2008
Free agent safety Stuart Schweigert has signed with the Redskins, according to the Washington Post. Financial terms and the length of the deal were not disclosed.

Our View:He spent the past four seasons with the Raiders, and racked up 69 tackles (56 solo) in 2007, with two interceptions. He became expendable when the Raiders added Gibril Wilson. He should hold a reserve role in Washington, and his fantasy value will be limited.
May 20, 2008
The Raiders released veteran safety Stuart Schweigert on Tuesday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Schweigert lost his starting job to injury in midseason last year and never got it back from Hiram Eugene.

Our View:He became expendable when the Raiders signed Giants strong safety Gibril Wilson and shifted Michael Huff to free safety. Schweigert had 69 tackles and two interceptions last season, and finished with 268 tackles and four interceptions in four years with the team.
