Coach McCarthy is pleased with the recent acquisition of Brandon Chillar, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. McCarthy stated, "I think Chillar is solid against the run, good against the run, very athletic in the pass game." As of now, Chillar is going to compete with Brady Poppinga for the starting spot at strong-side linebacker this season.

Brandon Chillar won't be handed a starting job just because he signed a fairly lucrative free-agent contract with the Green Bay Packers, according to the Green Bay Press Gazette. General Manager Ted Thompson said Chillar would have to beat out last year's starting strong-side linebacker, Brady Poppinga. "That wasn't why we did it," Thompson said when asked whether Poppinga's role will be reduced. "We look at Brady being our SAM backer. Now, if Brandon comes in and competes with him, we'll see how that works out. We're always trying to push competition. That's more of a coach's decision to make once you get everyone in camp and see how you are. With the four guys (Chillar, Poppinga, Nick Barnett and A.J. Hawk), you could do a lot of different things." Chillar, who signed a two-year contract worth about $5.4 million (including more than $3 million in first-year money), could provide an improvement in pass coverage, an area where Poppinga struggled at times last year.

Brandon Chillar and the Green Bay Packers have agreed on a two-year contract worth $5.2 million, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Chillar, who will battle incumbent Brady Poppinga for the starting strong side linebacker job, also has an incentives clause in the contract, which could raise the value of the deal above $6 million.

Brandon Chillar will make a decision today on his next team per his agent Brian Mackler, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Mackler provided no further details, but league sources say Arizona, Green Bay and the Rams all have made offers and that the Rams very much remain in the running to retain Chillar. The Rams are believed to be offering a one-year deal, while Arizona and Green Bay are offering multi-year deals. Chillar, 25, was a fourth-round draft pick by the Rams in 2004 out of UCLA. He was a part-time starter in 2004 and 2005 but has been the Rams' starting strong side linebacker the past two seasons.

Brandon Chillar is expected to sign with the Cardinals, but his contract is on hold while the club finalizes the mega-deal for Larry Fitzgerald, the Arizona Republic reports.
