The New Orleans Saints are seeking a trade that will allow them to move up in the upcoming NFL Draft and have entered talks with several teams to accomplish that goal, according to the Associated Press. Saints GM Mickey Loomis says, "We've talked to a number of teams in front of us about the possibility of moving forward. It's all preliminary discussion."

Our View:Reports indicate Loomis was rather vague in his comments, obviously needing to protect his team's true intent and negotiations. Loomis also declined to comment when asked about potential dealings for New York Giants TE Jeremy Shockey. The Saints realize their defense is in need of attention. Trading for LB Jonathan Vilma and signing free-agent LB Dan Morgan proves this true. Now it appears the desire to move up in the draft could be motivated by similar desires.

It appears the New Orleans Saints are moving towards the NFL Draft with a particular target in mind, and in an effort to insure that player is available, the Saints have contacted the St. Louis Rams, owners of the 2nd-overall pick of this year's draft, to discuss a potential trade to move up into that slot, according to NFL.com.

Our View:The Saints possess the 10th-overall pick in the draft and, based on generally accepted values associated with those picks, the team is likely going to be shopping several picks (and possibly players) to make the substantial jump in the 1st round. It is rumored, knowing New Orleans harbors serious needs on the defensive side of the ball, coach Sean Payton is looking to get in position to draft LSU DT Glenn Dorsey. It is a move that shocks more than few who follow and cover the league as so few teams have been willing to make a move into the first 10 picks of the NFL Draft in recent seasons, in large part due to the cost associated to make such a deal as well as the dollars that must be dedicated to the player selected with such a pick. It now appears the Saints are willing to make that sacrifice, and all signs point to a defensive upgrade.

Jammal Brown missed a third day of practice on Friday and is listed as doubtful on the injury report for Sunday’s game against the Texans, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. He is nursing a calf injury.

Our View:The Saints were holding out hope on Thursday that Brown would make a sudden recovery, but it looks like second-year lineman Zach Strief will fill in on Sunday.

Jammal Brown missed a second day of practice on Thursday with a calf injury. However, head coach Sean Payton have told the New Orleans Times-Picayune that he is hopeful that Brown will play on Sunday against the Texans.

Our View:Brown is the best offensive lineman on the Saints roster, so losing him for a week could be a big blow to Drew Brees and Reggie Bush.
