June 26, 2008 Brandon Jacobs is nearing a resolution to his contract negotiations with the Giants and is on the cusp of signing a reported four year deal, according to the Bergen Record.
Our View:Jacobs went for over 1,000-yards last year (1.009) despite the fact that he was limited to 11 games because of injury. He has proven to be a bull in his early career, and he figures to provide solid RB2 numbers this year if he can stay on the field.
June 19, 2008 Running back Brandon Jacobs is entering the final year of his contract and looking for a big payday. The New York Giants have a differing view on the possible compensation package, but the Newark Star-Ledger is speculating that the recent probation violation of Ahmad Bradshaw could possibly jump-start the negotiations.
Our View:The Giants were previously utilizing Bradshaw as leverage in the contract negotiations, but the fact that he is currently sitting in jail on a probation violation, places some doubt on that insurance policy. While the Giants would like to see Jacobs make it through a full season healthy, he is clearly the best back on the roster. Stay tuned.
May 30, 2008 Brandon Jacobs suffered through a season full of nagging injuries. The big back missed five games and part of a sixth because of a variety of injuries. If the Giants want to repeat as Super Bowl champs, Jacobs must stay healthy.
Our View:In his first year as a starter Jacobs gained 1,009 yards with a 5.0 yards per carry average. If he stays healthy he will challenge 1300-1400 yards with a number of receptions that will bolster his all-purpose status.
April 20, 2008 Brandon Jacobs was reportedly spotted at Madison Square Garden on Saturday with a cast on his left forearm and his arm wrapped up in a sling, according to the NY Daily News. Jacobs had surgery recently on his left wrist, to just "clean some stuff out." He commented that he will definitely be ready for the start of training camp.
Our View:Jacobs broke loose for 1009 yards in 2007, and is heading into a contract year.
April 12, 2008 The Giants and Brandon Jacobs' reps are reportedly way apart on contract talks, according to the Star Ledger. The talks are only preliminary, and the team still has plenty of time to work out a new deal for him.
Our View:The rising star bruised his way to 1009 rushing yards in the 2007 season, which ended with a Super Bowl win. The team will take care of him.
