Defensive end Chris Canty is looking for a long-term deal from the Cowboys, according to the Star-Telegram. Canty signed a one-year, $2.017 million restricted free-agent tender last week after showing up for four weeks of voluntary practices, but he hopes a long-term deal is on the horizon. Canty said, "Obviously, I would like that financial security as soon as possible. It doesn’t necessarily work out in the timing that you want all the time, but I’m confident that something will get done in the near future."

Our View:If he does not get a new deal, he will become an unrestricted free agent in March. He reached a career-best 3.5 sacks in 2007, and could surpass that mark in 2008 with the added motivation of playing for a new contract.

The Dallas Morning News reports that Chris Canty has signed his one-year tender offer worth $2.017 million with the Dallas Cowboys.

Our View:Despite not having signed the tender, Canty has worked out with the Cowboys the entire off-season. Last season he had a career-high 3.5 sacks last year and 46 tackles, which were the most by a defensive linemen on the team.

The Dallas Cowboys have tendered defensive end Chris Canty, according to the Dallas Morning News. Canty has been offered a one-year, $2.017 million deal. The compensation for a team signing him away - should the Cowboys decide not to match an offer - would be a first-round pick.

Chris Canty missed his second consecutive practice Thursday because of a left ankle injury he suffered last week, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Canty said he hopes to be able to practice today and thinks he will be ready for Sunday's game at Washington.
