Marcus Maxwell has suffered a torn muscle during practice Wednesday, and has now been released (as waived/injured) by the Bengals, according to Scout.com.

Our View:If he clear waivers, Maxwell would revert to the Bengals' IR list, hence ending his season.

Marcus Maxwell has been injured in practice with what the team is describing as a torn muscle, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View:The team is already without Chad Johnson (shoulder), TJ Houshmandzadeh (hamstring), and Andre Caldwell (foot). Maxwell was competing for the No. 3 role at receiver, but Chris Henry will likely hold a firm grip on the job, assuming he can stay out of trouble heading into Week 1.

Wide receiver Marcus Maxwell is working with the Cincinnati Bengals’ first team in Chad Johnson's absence from team drills. The third-year pro from Oregon is getting an early look ahead of rookies Jerome Simpson and Andre Caldwell, according to ESPN. "Marcus has done some good things," Bengals offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski said. "He's been very reliable, so he's going to have an opportunity to get some playing time."

Our View:The Cincinnati organization likes Maxwell’s combination of size (6-4, 205) and speed. With Chad Johnson acting a fool, and the release of Chris Henry, the opportunity for playing time exists. For now, it appears Maxwell is third in the pecking order at wide receiver in Cincinnati.

Marcus Maxwell has been impressive so far in the off-season for the Bengals, according to Bengals.com. The team likes his combination of size (6-4 205) and speed. The team likes his tough physical play as well.

Our View:He was previously cut by the 49ers, but is entering his third pro season, which is where most receivers break out to the next level. He has shown Carson Palmer reliability on his routes, and has a shot to emerge as a red-zone target if he holds on to make the team. Chad Johnson and TJ Houshmandzadeh will draw most of the attention from defenses, and the team could take advantage of Maxwell's size and toughness inside the 20.
