Patriots quarterback Matt Cassel and receiver Randy Moss had a chance during the bye week to sit down and speak with each other, in order to get on the same page concerning their tendencies, according to the Boston Globe. "We had some time off to really sit down and elaborate on what we were thinking, both of us, and really get on the same page," Cassel said.

Our View:Cassel, Moss and the rest of the Patriots will take on the 49ers on Sunday. Hopefully for fantasy owners, their conversations will lead to some big plays.

Coach Bill Belichick still has confidence in Matt Cassel as the Patriots' starting quarterback, according to the Boston Globe. Belichick said, "Matt had a good week last week and a good practice Monday. I think offensively, collectively, we have to do everything a little bit better. I have confidence in all the players we put out there."

Our View:Cassel has thrown two touchdown passes and only one interception over 72 pass attempts, with a 87.0 efficiency rating. He could be a pleasant surprise this weekend with a favorable match-up against the 49ers.

There is already speculation that the Minnesota Vikings will be after current Patriots quarterback Matt Cassel in the offseason, according to the St. Paul Pioneer-Press.

Our View:This seems a bit premature, and would officially eliminate Tarvaris Jackson as quarterback of the future, but Cassell is an unrestricted free agent after the season, so rumors will about for any team needing a starter at the position.
September 16, 2008
The AP reports that Tom Brady has been joining Matt Cassel in the team's quarterback meetings despite undergoing surgery last week and being ruled out for the season.

Our View:This bodes well for Cassel's continued development. There's no question that Brady can be of significant value to the Patriots even off the field by continuing to mentor his replacement.
September 14, 2008
Matt Cassel completed 16-of-23 passes for 165 yards with no touchdowns, or interceptions in the Patriots 19-10 victory over the New York Jets.

Our View:The Patriots offense looks like a different beast with Cassel at the helm. Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels called run plays 58.9 percent of the time, after throwing the ball over 56 percent of the time last year. We expect this trend to continue until Cassel is fully acclimated to the scheme.

Fourth-year quarterback Matt Cassel, who had thrown just 39 passes in his career before Sunday, will replace the injured Tom Brady for a length of time which has yet to be determined. According to reports, however, it could be the rest of the 2008 season.

Our View:Casel completed 13-of-18 passes for 152 yards and a touchdown. Cassel is best known for backing up Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart at USC.

Patriots backup quarterback Matt Cassel is on the bubble and in danger of being cut, according to Patriots.com.

Our View:Cassel has not performed particularly well in preseason action, and is fighting Matt Gutierrez for the backup job. The team spent a third-round pick on Kevin O’Connell, which means he is likely to stick around as the number three guy.
August 7, 2008
Matt Cassel is battling Matt Gutierrez for the number two role at quarterback, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:They will compete in preseason action tonight, when New England hosts Baltimore. Neither QB will hold any fantasy value as long as Tom Brady remains intact.
April 28, 2008
Matt Cassel has one year left on his rookie contract and there is speculation that his time in New England is running out as the team selected San Diego State quarterback Kevin O'Connell in the third round of the draft (94th overall), according to FanNation. That was the highest the team drafted a quarterback since Drew Bledsoe in 2004, who went number one overall.

Our View:Cassel only threw 39 passes in his NFL career, but he has looked good at times in brief action, and would find a job as a backup in another city if the Patriots decide not to re-sign him.
