Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt praised the offseason work of Matt Leinart, according to azcardinals.com. The second-year coach was pleased with Leinart's physical and mental progress, saying, "The thing I really like is you see confidence in him on the field because he is more comfortable with the system and when he steps into the huddle and calls the plays there is a different presence about him now."

Our View:Leinart has yet to prove he can be a quality starter in the NFL, so his third year in the league is an important one.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt has noted that Matt Leinart needs to improve his footwork, according to USA Today. Whisenhunt said, "What he was doing last year was crossing over his first step and not getting away from the center, and that creates situations on a five-step drop where he is not nine yards deep, or he is not far enough behind the line of scrimmage. He wasn't getting far enough from the line of scrimmage, which makes it difficult protection-wise, makes it difficult for timing of routes."

Our View:Leinart is the starter heading into training camp, and Leinart noted that it is time to prove himself. Whisenhunt has him pointed in the right direction, and has no doubt that Leinart wants to be among the best quarterbacks in the league.

Head coach Ken Whisenhunt was asked if there is a plan to resurrect the dual-quarterback scheme from last year. And while he didn’t totally rule it out, he did comment that quarterback Matt Leinart is much more comfortable in the two-minute drill, no huddle and goal line packages this offseason, according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View:Whisenhunt has consistently stated that Leinart will be his starter this season, but after last years rotating quarterback scenario there is always room for some doubt. We consider Leinart a fantasy backup this year, but he certainly possesses upside potential considering the quality targets in the Cardinals receiver corps.

Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic is reporting that Matt Leinart is the starter in name, but his hold on the job is tenuous. The report notes that in the Cardinals voluntary practice last Thursday Kurt Warner took most of the snaps with the first-team offense while Leinart guided the second unit.

Our View:Somers obviously has nothing to write about. According to Rototimes sources head coach Ken Whisenhunt said that Leinart remains the starter and that if OTA's determined depth chart status then rookies and first year players would dominate the veterans that rarely attend, voluntary or not. Warner has durability issues, his arm strength is not what it once was, and he isn't the future in Arizona... he's the backup.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt says Matt Leinart handled the offense well and looked confident during the weekend minicamp, the team's official web site reports. Leinart has already been named the starter for 2008, and he is coming off a broken left collarbone.

Our View:We already knew Leinart's shoulder felt good enough to party, but throwing footballs is a different thing. We're still waiting to see how he looks when taking hits. This is a good start, though.
