Denver head coach Mike Shanahan has said repeatedly he doesn't consider Selvin Young or Andre Hall to be big enough to be every-down backs, and this week intimated that Travis Henry would need a "great offseason program" to be considered one again, according to the Rocky Mountain News. The article goes on to speculate that Shanahan could utilize his first-round draft choice (12th overall) to select a running back capable of carrying the load. During Shanahan's tenure, Denver has not selected a running back in the first round of the NFL draft. The closest foray into that uncharted world came in 2006, when the Broncos' would have taken Laurence Maroney, if Jay Cutler had been off the board.

Quarterback Jay Cutler has called out Brandon Marshall, his receiver who has dealt with numerous off-the-field problems. "Yeah, he's not my favorite person right now," Cutler said in the AP. "I mean, I support him, but it's always something with him right now." With Jeremy Bates taking over the Broncos' passing game, Cutler said Tuesday that it was imperative for Marshall to participate in all the offseason workouts, but the receiver will be out until training camp after a freak accident that landed him in the operating room for surgery on his right arm. "I've talked to him many times. I think a lot of people have. … He knows he's running out of chances," Cutler said. "This wasn't like his DUI and other stuff he's had. It was an accident, but still, things like that can't happen. He knows it. But like I told him, I said, 'Brandon, they're going to quit giving you chances and you're going to have to go somewhere else. And that's going to be a shame."' Marshall had a breakout 2007 campaign, but it sounds like he's going to have to win back the trust of his quarterback.

Jay Cutler ripped into wide receiver Brandon Marshall, who suffered a gash on his right forearm while horsing around with a brother last month, according to USA Today. "Yeah, he's not my favorite person right now," Cutler said Tuesday in his first offseason interview. "I mean, I support him, but it's always something with him right now. You can't have that." Cutler said with Jeremy Bates taking over the passing game, the offseason work is important and now Marshall won't be available until the start of training camp in late July at the earliest. Cutler said he wanted to work on new formations and plays and now those are things that might not even come together in camp. Marshall stated recently that he needs to grow up both on and off the field, and it's apparent that at least one teammate feels the same way.
