Although Tarvaris Jackson is dealing with a sore knee and has missed some practice time the Vikings still expect him to start Sunday against St. Louis. This doesn't mean you want to take the same risk, as Jackson was all over the place in his first career start last week at Green Bay (his receivers didn't help with some embarrassing drops).

Tarvaris Jackson didn't do much of anything in his first career start Thursday at Green Bay. He completed 10-of-20 passes for just 50 yards (along with an interception), and the Vikings only managed three first downs on the night. On the positive side, Jackson did show plenty of mobility, scrambling five times for 23 yards (the Packers sacked him on three other occasions).

As expected, coach Brad Childress has announced that Tarvaris Jackson will start for the Vikings this week, according to the team's official site. "I don't do that just to do it," Childress said. "He'll give us the best chance to win right now, just based on what I saw off tape." Jackson completed 14-of-23 passes for 177 yards and threw one touchdown and one interception after relieving Brad Johnson in Week 15.

The Vikings have yet to officially name a starting quarterback for Thursday's game, but sources have told the Star-Tribune that rookie Tavaris Jackson will take over for Brad Johnson. Jackson completed 14-of-23 passes for 177 yards and threw one touchdown and one interception in relief of Johnson in Week 15.

Coach Brad Childress has not decided if Brad Johnson or Tarvaris Jackson will start at quarterback next week, according to the AP. It will not be Brooks Bollinger, who had to leave this past week's game with a sprained shoulder. "I have a few different options," he said. "I think that the biggest thing that you ask as we go is who is going to give us the best chance to win in the fourth quarter. We'll just look at that and see who we feel like that is."

Tarvaris Jackson had surgery Monday to repair torn cartilage in his right knee. He is expected to miss about a month, according to the AP. "Everything turned out fine," Vikings coach Brad Childress said. "It was just about as the doctors had expected."
September 22, 2006
Tarvaris Jackson suffered cartilage damage in his right knee Thursday and will miss 3-4 weeks, according to the AP. This means Brooks Bollinger is clearly the backup quarterback in Minnesota right now.
August 18, 2006
Although the move is not set in stone, Tavaris Jackson has passed Mike McMahon on the depth chart, according to the Star Tribune. He will be the second-string quarterback for Saturday's game.
July 26, 2006
The Vikings signed second-round pick Tavaris Jackson to a four-year contract on Wednesday, according to the AP. "Tarvaris understands that every rep is important at training camp, and we're glad he's on board as camp starts," coach Brad Childress said.
