October 22, 2008
The wildcat formation is spreading across the NFL and the 49ers are the newest team to try it, according to CBSSportsline.com. Michael Robinson has been taking some snaps in the formation.

Our View:Robinson was a quarterback in college at Penn State and the 49ers are trying to make something happen on the offensive side of the ball.

Michael Robinson will take part in individual drills today with the hope of gradually working his way to a full practice sometime next week, according to the Sacramento Bee.

Our View:Robinson is working his way back from a sprained right knee.
July 28, 2008
Michael Robinson is yet to receive his MRI results on his sprained right knee, but coach Mike Nolan commented that he may need to be scoped, according to the Sacramento Bee.

Our View:That does not sound encouraging. Robinson is third on the 49ers' depth chart behind starter Frank Gore and DeShaun Foster, but is still an important member of the club, namely as a situational back, and Mike Martz previously mentioned that he likes Robinson's pass-catching ability. We will keep you posted when more details on his injury surface.

Michael Robinson underwent an MRI after spraining his right knee during practice in an 11-on-11 drill Sunday, according to the SF Chronicle. He said, "My foot got stuck in the ground while I was cutting. I don't think it's anything serious."

Our View:Coach Mike Martz likes Robinson's potential as a pass-catcher, and he has a chance to make an impact as a complement to Frank Gore, assuming his knee injury isn't serious.
July 3, 2008
Speaking of running back Michael Robinson, new offensive coordinator Mike Martz expressed noteworthy expectations of pairing him with Frank Gore, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. "One can block for the other, or (we can) use them both as receivers," Martz said. "There's all kinds of things that can happen out of that."

Our View:Robinson is worth keeping an eye on as a potential handcuff selection for Gore. Gore has been healthy of late, but does have an injury history.
June 22, 2008
Michael Robinson signed an extension with the Niners to remain with the club through the 2012 season, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat. Terms of the signing bonus were not announced though he will receive salaries of $650,000, $750,00 and $850,000.

Our View:Robinson would appear to be nothing more than the clubs third option in the running game with the off-season signing of DeShaun Foster, but he does provide nice depth.
April 21, 2008
While there are no indications that the 49ers are even considering versatile running back Michael Robinson as the front-runner at fullback, daily team observers believe the 228-pound bruiser wouldn’t be a bad candidate to fill that role, provided he put on 10-15 pounds, according to Pro Football Weekly. It shouldn’t be too hard to find an upgrade for Moran Norris, who regressed last season, and Robinson provides an extra dimension, beyond being just a pile-moving blocker, with his running and receiving skills.

Our View:During the offseason, San Francisco signed DeShaun Foster to backup Frank Gore. Moving Robinson, who is third on the running back depth chart, to fullback makes some sense if the organization wants to get their best players on the field.
February 29, 2008
The San Francisco 49ers have signed running back Michael Robinson to a three-year contract extension, according to ESPN. Robinson's extension, the complete financial details of which were not immediately available, keeps him with the 49ers through the 2012 season. Robinson, 21, has played mostly as a third-down back for the 49ers for the past two seasons, and has also been a special teams standout.
