Rich Gannon has a broken vertebrae in his neck that will sideline him for at least six weeks. He had an MRI exam this morning and was taken back for further tests. Raiders coach Norv Turner didn't believe Gannon was at risk for paralysis and said Gannon was walking around the team's training facility before receiving the news about his neck. Turner added that it was premature to speculate whether Gannon would be placed on the injured reserve.

In the 2004 season opener, Rich Gannon looked slightly more like the 2002 version of Gannon than the 2003 version. Gannon completed 20-of-37 passes for 305 yards and two touchdowns, while also throwing two interceptions. Gannon also fumbled three times but lost only one.

He was throwing it about 20 yards and throwing it fairly firm."

The Tampa Tribune reports that Rich Gannon is expected to be released by the Raiders this winter and could end up with former coach Jon Gruden in Tampa Bay. It's certainly possible that Gannon will be released, but the "expectation" that he will be seems more than a little presumptuous.
