The Houston Chronicle reports that Texans running back Steve Slaton was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for December.

Our View:Slaton has 508 rushing yards in the month, scoring three times. It was the cap on a wonderful rookie campaign in which he ran for nearly 1,300 yards and nine scores. He'll be a top fantasy selection next season.
December 28, 2008
Running back Steve Slaton rushed 20 times for 92 yards and a touchdown in the Week 17 win over the Bears. He also caught five passes for 36 yards. Slaton wrapped up his rookie campaign with 1,659 total yards and 10 scores.

Our View:We don't need to tell anyone that Slaton had an impressive rookie campaign. The Texans offense is on the rise, and Slaton will likely enter 2009 as a low-end No. 1 fantasy back.

Steve Slaton had 66 yards as the Texans fell to the Raiders on Sunday. He has now accumulated 1,190 yards this season, which is a new team record, according to the AP. He added five catches for 36 more yards.

Our View:It looks like we won't need to research the Texans' backfield so much next summer as Slaton has proven to be the real thing. Entering training camp, many felt Slaton would be their third-string running back. His 45 receptions make him an even bigger threat in PPR formats.

Steve Slaton leads the NFL in fourth quarter rushing this season, according to the Houston Chronicle. 374 of his 1,124 rushing yards have been pounded out in the fourth quarter. Coach Gary Kubiak said, "That would surprise me a little bit, just with his size and how many times he’s touched the ball. But what doesn’t surprise me is we really put an emphasis this year on being able to finish games running the football. We’ve been committed to that, so that’s something that we’ve gotten better at. We’ve finished a couple games on the field making big first downs and hitting a knee and calling it a day."

Our View:Slaton enjoyed a great career at West Virginia, but slipped to the third round of the NFL draft due to his slight 5-9, 200 pound frame. Keep the dazzing rookie active this weekend at Oakland.
December 14, 2008
Running back Steve Slaton rushed 24 times for 100 yards in the Week 15 win over the Titans. He also caught three passes for 15 yards.

Our View:Slaton put in a gutsy, patient performance against the excellent Titans defense. He managed a 34-yard gain late in the fourth quarter to push himself up to this nice total. The rookie has rushed the ball at least 20 times in four straight games.
