Brent Celek is close to 100 percent following offseason shoulder surgery, the team's official web site notes.

The Eagles confirmed on Thursday that Brent Celek will start in Week 16 due to injuries to L.J. Smith (knee) and Matt Schobel (concussion). "Brent's the starter, Brent's the man right now, and he was last week, as well," offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg tells the Philadelphia Daily News. "He's done a nice job. He makes very few mistakes, plays at a pretty high level, and he does that on a consistent basis. He's been impressive, especially this being his first year."

Brent Celek caught four passes for 59 yards in the preseason opener on Monday night. It was a nice debut, although he dropped one pass and was critical of himself. "I messed up a few times," Celek tells the Philadelphia Daily News. "I need to work on a lot of stuff, on my route-running, on my blocking, all the facets of my game. I still have a lot to learn."
