Newsbreakers

Brandon Meriweather participated in all 66 defensive plays in last Sunday's game against the Rams, according to the Boston Globe. He was making his first start at strong safety in place of the injured Rodney Harrison.

Our View:He has solid speed and range, and registered six tackles (three solo) against St. Louis. He is worth targeting in IDP leagues as a reserve.

Brandon Meriweather is expected to step into the starting role at strong safety following the loss of Rodney Harrison (torn quad), according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:Meriweather had been working as a reserve, but still played in 59 percent of the defensive snaps through six games, so he will be ready to step in. He won't be quite as effective as Harrison, but shouldn't be a liability either. He will be in position to rack up favorable fantasy numbers and merits attention in IDP leagues.

Safety Brandon Meriweather is questionable to return after he suffered a hip injury during the second quarter of the Week 6 game in San Diego, the Boston Globe reports. Lewis Sanders has taken his place.

Our View:The Patriots pass defense hasn't been particularly great early in the year, and they've been beaten up and burned by the Chargers thus far tonight. It didn't seem like Meriweather's injury was serious, and they can ill afford to lose him.

Safety Brandon Meriweather was shaken up during the second quarter of the Week 6 game against the Patriots.

Our View:Meriweather appeared to injury his lower back while breaking up a pass. We're not sure of the severity at this point.

Second-year safety Brandon Meriweather is progressing as he currently leads the Patriots with two interceptions, according to the Boston Globe. VP of player personnel Scott Pioli said, "He knows a lot more of our defense now. He did a lot of things last year. He lined up outside at corner. He lined up at the star slot corner. He's lined up at safety. That was all just in preseason. He was learning a lot. Talk to our players; we do a lot, and sometimes for young players, it can be initially overwhelming. Brandon is a smart guy. He's figuring it out."

Our View:While Meriweather leads the team in interceptions, he only has 14 tackles (11 solo), and remains an all-or-nothing fantasy prospect for IDP leagues.
