With Santonio Holmes suspended (marijuana possession) for this weekend's game against the Giants, rookie Limas Sweed is slated to split time with Dallas Baker in the slot role as the No. 3 receiver, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View:Coach Mike Tomlin noted that he will go with the hot hand. Sweed has great size at 6-4 212 pounds, and could be productive with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger leading the charge.

The Pittsburgh Steelers still believe that second-round pick, receiver Limas Sweed, will be a big part of their future, even though he has yet to get in a game this year, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View:Sweed is a big wideout with good speed, but he simply hasn't shown enough in practice to make Pittsburgh comfortable utilizing him.

Limas Sweed may finally see some action on the field this week, in just the second game he'll be dressed for, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Offensive coordinator Bruce Arians said Sweed needs to just do the simple things to succeed, telling the paper, "I wish he'd quit trying to score touchdowns on out cuts. Just drag the feet and get out of bounds. Those are the type of balls he's dropped."

Our View:Sweed dressed for the team's game with Jacksonville, but did not set foot on the field. A second-round pick this year, Sweed still has miles to go before fantasy owners need to know his name.

Limas Sweed could see his first action of the season against the Bengals this weekend, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The second-round pick dressed last week against Jacksonville but didn't play. "He's doing well," coach Mike Tomlin said. "He'll get an opportunity this week to be the No. 4 receiver. He just needs to have consistency in route running, catching the football and assignments. It's just that simple. He has improved and, really, he's been on the brink of deserving an opportunity. But the other guys playing in front of him have done a nice job. With this injury to Dallas Baker, it's a window of opportunity for him, one that he needs to take advantage of."

Our View:Obviously Sweed has to prove a lot before he can be trusted by fantasy owners, but he is at least worth tracking.

Only Rashard Mendenhall, after Week 4, will have been the only Steelers draft pick to have dressed every game this season and contributed, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Second-round pick, wideout Limas Sweed; third-round pick, linebacker Buster Davis; and fourth-round pick Tony Hills and not dressed for even a single game this year.

Our View:Obviously, there is plenty of time for these players to become productive, but you would expect them to make some sort of contribution, especially on special teams.
September 16, 2008
It is possible that Pittsburgh rookie wide receiver Limas Sweed may not see the field at all this season, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View:We knew Sweed was struggling to get acclimated to the NFL game, but if he is doing so poorly that he has little chance to play in the near future ... well, that's a lot worse than we thought. Anyone stashing him on the back of fantasy rosters can feel free to boot him immediately.

Pittsburgh rookie wide receiver Limas Sweed is inactive for tonight's game against Cleveland, according to NFL.com. Also inactive for the Steelers are cornerback Deshea Townsend, running back Gary Russell, linebacker Bruce Davis, tackles Tony Hill and Trai Essex, and defensive end Orpheus Roye.

Our View:Sweed has struggled in his transition to the NFL, and is inactive for the second straight week. He'll make an impact for fantasy owners eventually, but not anytime soon.
September 7, 2008
The Steelers inactives for Week 1 are wide receiver Limas Sweed, safety Anthony Smith, running back Gary Russell, tight end Sean McHugh, linebacker Bruce Davis, offensive lineman Tony Hunt, and defensive end Orpheus Roye.

Our View:There's nothing surprising for fantasy owners in this list. It reminds everyone that Sweed remains a work-in-progress. Nate Washington is the Steelers No. 3 receiver.

Limas Sweed leads the Steelers' in the preseason with five catches, but is trying too hard to impress, which resulted in two drops, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He is only averaging 6.4 yards per catch. Offensive coordinator Bruce Arians said, "He's trying to do the 'wow' every play. Just give me six yards and catch it. Make the plays that are there, not the wow-play every time." Ward added, "I think he's pressing so hard to impress everybody. When you start pressing, you start making more mistakes, the mistakes that are routine. Then they end up becoming a problem."

Our View:He is not expected to make a strong impact right away as a rookie, and will begin the season as the No. 4 receiver. Nate Washington's role as the No. 3 receiver is safe for Week 1.
August 10, 2008
Limas Sweed had a solid preseason debut against the Eagles, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Sweed only caught three passes for 23 yards, but displayed toughness on a three-yard grab in the second quarter. Rookie quarterback Dennis Dixon threw high to him over the middle on the play, but the 6-4 rookie jumped, caught the ball, was hit and landed on his head and shoulders, but hung onto the ball.

Our View:Sweed could be the eventual replacement for Hines Ward when he decides to hang up his cleats, and is off to a good start in his battle with Nate Washington for the number three role at receiver this season.
August 7, 2008
Limas Sweed is excited about his first preseason game against the Eagles Friday, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The rookie receiver said, "I feel like I'm capable of doing a lot of things and come Friday night I finally get a chance to show what I can really do."

Our View:Sweed is expected to play a lot against the Eagles, as Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes will likely only work for one series.
August 6, 2008
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Ed Bouchette said in a recent chat that he doesn't expect rookie wideout Limas Sweed to catch more than 25 passes this season.

Our View:For the moment, Sweed is listed at No. 4 on the depth chart behind Hines Ward, Santonio Holmes and Nate Washington. He should have a bright future, but you shouldn't draft him outside of keeper leagues.
August 1, 2008
Pittsburgh Steelers rookie wide receiver Limas Sweed should have a much easier time of it now that he can actually see. The second-round pick from Texas got contact lenses, and said he was "shocked" at how much better his vision was, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Our View:Sweed had a great career at Texas, so think of what he can do now that he can actually see the ball being thrown to him. Not sure how much this really affects his fantasy value, but he should be even better now that the blurriness is gone, you would think.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Limas Sweed ended an impressive practice on a concerning note. He was carted off the field during the afternoon practice on Wednesday with a possible right hamstring injury. His leg was being iced down.

Our View:The extent of any injury was not yet clear, but hopefully he will not be out long. He had been doing very well in camp up to this point. Earlier, coach Mike Tomlin had said, "We're giving Sweed a bunch of reps. He's a guy who has a lot of energy, a young guy who has a ways to go. He's capable of taking a lot of reps. He's one of those guys who doesn't get fatigued; he can run all day. So, it gives him a bunch of opportunities, and he took advantage of a few of those today." We like his chances to make a little bit of noise this season if he can get back up running soon.

Rookie receiver Limas Sweed is fitting in well with the Steelers in training camp, and notably leaped and caught a fade pass in the left back corner of the endzone Tuesday for a score over cornerback Anthony Madison, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Coach Mike Tomlin said, "We're giving Sweed a bunch of reps. He's a guy who has a lot of energy, a young guy who has a ways to go. He's capable of taking a lot of reps. He's one of those guys who doesn't get fatigued; he can run all day. So, it gives him a bunch of opportunities, and he took advantage of a few of those today."

Our View:Sweed is challenging Nate Washington for the slot role as a rookie, and could be the future replacement for Hines Ward if he works hard.
July 25, 2008
Second-round pick Limas Sweed (Texas) has signed a four-year deal with the Steelers, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Our View:Sweed should challenge Nate Washington for the slot role as a rookie, and could be the future replacement for Hines Ward.

X marks the spot for wide receiver Limas Sweed. In football speak, the X position is the split end and that’s where the rookie receiver will line up, behind Santonio Holmes, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "Limas is at X," offensive coordinator Bruce Arians said. "We can move Santonio around, which we started doing a lot last year because he plays in the slot very well. Limas can play in the slot, no problem. Hines can obviously play everywhere. Nate [Washington] can play everywhere -- he's had to play every position on the team the last two years; he's lined up at X, F, Y and Z."

Our View:The Steelers have a versatile receiver corps given the various players ability to lineup in different locations depending on the formation. Sweed will learn the “X” position first, but wide receivers coach, Randy Fichtner, expects the rookie to overtake Washington and fill the slot role in 2008.

The Steelers used the 53rd pick to select Limas Sweed in the second round on Saturday. The two-time All-Big Twelve second teamer fills a need for Pittsburgh. In the mold of Plaxico Burress at 6-4 and 215 pounds, he is the big receiver the team targeted.

Our View:His senior season was stunted by a wrist injury that required surgery. Sweed has that combination of size, speed, vertical reach and great hands to be a top-tiered possession receiver. His ability to make the tough catch was one of the attributes that intriqued the Steelers. Many scouts believe he's NFL-ready, and along with Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes could form a deadly triple-threat.
March 19, 2008
Limas Sweed had his "Pro Day" workout, according to NFL.com. He notably ran the 40 in 4.50 and 4.51, had a 37.5 inch vertical jump, 4.33 short shuttle, and reportedly looked good catching the ball.
