Newsbreakers
November 30, 2008
Tyler Thigpen completed 15-of-22 passes for 162 yards and one interception. He added 48 rushing yards on 11 carries.

Our View:Thigpen failed to throw a touchdown pass for the first time since Week 7. He still has a favorable schedule in the near future against Denver and San Diego.
November 23, 2008
Tyler Thigpen completed 17-of-31 passes for 240 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions in Week 12. He also lost one fumble.

Our View:Thigpen's overall starts were not terrible, but he effectively lost the game for the Chiefs by failing to take care of the ball. He needs to do a better job of prevent turnovers if he hopes to keep the job going into next season.
November 16, 2008
Tyler Thipen completed 19-of-38 passes for 235 yards with two touchdowns against one interception in the Week 11 loss to New Orleans.

Our View:Thigpen, who has the arm to make all the NFL throws, is averaging 236 passing yards per game (8 touchdowns vs. one interception) over the past month.
November 9, 2008
Tyler Thigpen threw for 266 yards and three scores in the Chiefs' 20-19 loss to the Chargers.

Our View:Thigpen and the Chiefs scored a touchdown with 26 seconds to go in the game to get within one of the Chargers. Head coach Herm Edwards went for two and the win but the attempt failed.
November 2, 2008
Quarterback Tyler Thigpen completed 14-of-25 passes for 164 yards and one touchdown in the Week 9 loss to Tampa Bay.

Our View:Thigpen also carried the ball six times for 22 yards and had a 37-yard touchdown reception (thrown by wide receiver Mark Bradley). In the last two games, Thigpen has thrown three touchdown passes without any turnovers.
October 29, 2008
The Kansas City Chiefs used a spread offense last week that helped quarterback Tyler Thigpen throw for 280 yards, and that will continue to be the way they execute their offense, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View:We've always wondered why NFL teams wouldn't at least give the spread a cursory look or two. The old-timers that babble on television predictably talk about stopping the run and running the ball, but last year's 8-8 Minnesota Vikings team - which lead the NFL in both rushing offense and defense - should be proof enough that there is more to winning than that. Thigpen and the Chiefs will have a stern test against Tampa Bay this week, so it will be interesting to see how the spread does in that contest.
October 26, 2008
Quarterback Tyler Thigpen completed 25-of-36 passes for 280 yards, two touchdowns, and no picks in the Week 8 loss to the Jets.

Our View:Thigpen made huge strides this Sunday. He is far from reliable, but the punchline showed he can play a little bit. Thigpen has earned himself some more starts, and wer feel a small bit better about Tony Gonzalez and Dwayne Bowe right now.
October 22, 2008
Tyler Thigpen is slated to start in Week 8 against the Jets after the Chiefs placed Brodie Croyle and Damon Huard on the IR, according to NFL.com.

Our View:Thigpen is not worth targeting for fantasy rosters, as he threw four interceptions over four games, while maintaining a dismal 44.3 efficiency rating. The team signed Quinn Gray, who could push Thigpen for playing time and the starting gig once he learns the Chiefs' offense and builds chemistry and rhythm with the receiving corps.
September 22, 2008
The Chiefs have not yet decided who will be their starter at quarterback in Week 4, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View:Tyler Thigpen play yesterday and looked awful tossing three interceptions. Moreover, he has completed just 40.6% of his passes through two weeks, so if that doesn't lead to a Damon Huard sighting we don't know what will.
September 21, 2008
Quarterback Tyler Thigpen may not be the answer for the Chiefs. He misfired on his opening seven passes against the Falcons on Sunday and sat at 2-for-14 with two interceptions. Thigpen did lead the Chiefs to a touchdown late in the first half and went into the locker room at 7-for-24.

Our View:We were surprised Herm Edwards didn't turn to Damon Huard after the second interception, and we might still see Huard later in the day.
September 17, 2008
Despite being named the starter for Week 3's contest in Atlanta, quarterback Tyler Thigpen will be on a short leash according to the Kansas City Star. Coach Herm Edwards said, "If he struggles, guess what? We’ll do what we always do. We’ll bring Damon Huard off the bench. That’s how Damon Huard really plays the best, in my opinion, when he comes off the bench"

Our View:Don't go running to the waiver wire just yet for Thigpen. The Atlanta matchup is a favorable one, but his situation is not.
September 17, 2008
Tyler Thigpen will start over Damon Huard in Week 3 at Atlanta, according to the AP.

Our View:Thigpen gets the nod in a manageable game against Atlanta, but should not be considered for fantasy lineups.
September 16, 2008
The Kansas City Chiefs will decide by Wednesday if Damon Huard or Tyler Thigpen will get the start at quarterback for the team's Week 3 contest against the Falcons, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View:Neither quarterback was all that good against Oakland, and Huard left the game with some type of injury that the team is keeping under wraps. For fantasy purposes, it doesn't matter who gets the nod, as neither is a viable option.
September 8, 2008
Coach Herman Edwards indicated that Tyler Thigpen is not being considered to replace injured quarterback Brodie Croyle, according to the KC Star. Damon Huard gets the nod as the starter.

Our View:Croyle separated his shoulder during battle with the Patriots Sunday and a timetable for his return is unclear. Thigpen is too prone to turnovers and Damon Huard has stepped up in the past when the club had nowhere else to turn.
August 17, 2008
The Chiefs want to see more of Tyler Thigpen before making a long-term decision on the second-year player as the team’s backup quarterback, according to the Kansas City Star. Thigpen played the entire second half Saturday, completing 16 of 27 passes with a touchdown. He also threw an interception, which was thrown high and tipped by receiver Bobby Sippio, but then returned for a touchdown. Thigpen also overthrew a handful of passes to open receivers before he found Sergiori Joachim in the end zone with 15 seconds to play.

Our View:Coach Herm Edwards said the team has not ruled out signing or trading for another quarterback, but there is no rush. He said if the Chiefs need another passer, likely a veteran, good players will be available when rosters are cut in two weeks. Damon Huard is the Chiefs’ third quarterback, but he did not play in Saturday night’s 27-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Edwards said Huard, a 12-year veteran, doesn’t need as many preseason snaps as Thigpen and starter Brodie Croyle. Edwards has said since training camp started that he wanted to devote more time to observing the Chiefs’ young quarterbacks, Croyle and Thigpen, who are 25 and 24, respectively.
August 5, 2008
Tyler Thigpen has passed Damon Huard for the number two spot on the Chiefs depth chart, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View:Thigpen is getting most of the snaps behind starter Brodie Croyle. If Croyle falters for any reason, Thigpen could find himself in a starting role.
May 6, 2008
Adam Schefter of the NFL Network is reporting that the Chiefs believe Tyler Thigpen is good enough to challenge Brodie Croyle for the starting job this summer.

Our View:We know Thigpen made some good impressions as a third-string rookie, but it's pretty tough to believe he'll step up to a starting gig before Week 1. We'll see if he actually shows any signs of unseating Croyle once training camp begins.
