The Carolina Panthers have agreed to terms with their fifth-round pick, tight end Gary Barnidge, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Barnidge was an accomplished receiver at Louisville, and though he needs to work on his blocking, he'll get a chance to compete for playing time. His fantasy prospects are not glowing at this point, but he may eventually be a solid contributor.

The Carolina Panthers haven't even started their organized team activities, but after one minicamp, it became apparent that fifth-round pick Gary Barnidge could make a run at the starting tight end job, according to the Sporting News. He is a smooth receiving threat, and shows that he can do something with the ball once he catches it, unlike some of the others on the depth chart.

Our View:Barnidge is adding some bulk to help with the on-the-move blocking responsibilities the team will ask of him, and definitely needs work in that area. Rookie tight ends rarely make an impact in their first season, but dynasty league owners should keep Barnidge on their radar.

Rookie tight end Gary Barnidge (Louisville) stood out in mini-camp over the weekend for the Panthers, according to CarolinaGrowl.com.

Our View:Barnidge is slightly undersized for the NFL at 6-5 240, but he was a strong in-line blocker at Louisville. He also has a knack for making tough catches and runs precise routes. He is a hard runner after the catch, and if he can add some bulk and upper-body strength, he could push Jeff King for playing time as a rookie.

Rookie tight end Gary Barnidge has a very good shot of unseating Jeff King, as the Carolina Panthers starter if he’s able to grasp the offense quickly, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View:Barnidge would help himself by adding some weight to his frame in the next few months and improving as a blocker. Dante Rosario ran with the first team in this weekend’s minicamp, so it appears King is in danger of losing his job.
