Vikes trade James to 'Skins
Eden Prairie, MN (Sports Network) - The Minnesota Vikings traded defensive end Erasmus James to the Washington Redskins for a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft on Tuesday.

Minnesota had waived James on Friday, but rescinded that transaction Tuesday, and Washington was able to acquire the 6-foot-4, 266-pounder before he hit the free agent market.

James was the Vikings' first-round pick in the 2005 draft, but has been slowed by knee injuries. Minnesota acquired Pro Bowl defensive end Jared Allen in the offseason, sending up a red flag that James was not in the ... More...

Newsbreakers
Tyrell Johnson, SFriday 7/4, 9:25 AM CT
Tyrell Johnson is confident he will be in training camp and will not be a hold-out, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Johnson, a safety, was the team's second-round pick, but their first selection in the draft.

Our View:Johnson is one of the pieces the Vikings need to step up in order to improve their secondary, and make their defense even better. As of now, they are a solid option in fantasy football drafts, especially with the addition of defensive end Jared Allen.
John David Booty, QBWednesday 7/2, 7:37 PM CT
The Minnesota Vikings have released rookie quarterback Kyle Wright, according to Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Our View:The news is not shocking at all as Wright struggled to make good at the University of Miami, but it is pertinant to those looking at fellow rookie John David Booty. Booty is viewed as a "darkhorse" in one of the more intriguing quarterback scenarios in the league. Now the team will move forward with Booty, veteran Gus Frerotte, and Brooks Bollinger as the combatants for a spot on the roster. Getting Wright out of the picture brings the group into focus and give Booty a full shot at making the cut.
Kenechi Udeze, DETuesday 7/1, 10:05 AM CT
Kenechi Udeze will undergo a bone marrow transplant to treat his leukemia this week, according to ESPN.com. His brother was a perfect match, which greatly increase his chances of pulling through this illness.

Our View:Udeze will not play football in 2008 but may resume his career at a later date. The Vikings have stepped up, placing him on the reserved/non-football injury list and will pay him his salary for the season, which is a little more than $800,000.
