Plaxico Burress, WR Friday 11/21, 6:53 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, Plaxico Burress will be a game-time call for Sunday's battle at Arizona, according to ESPN. He said, "Knowing me, as of right now, I will play, but like I said you have to be smart about it because it is a hamstring. The weather is going to be cold out here for the rest of the season and hamstrings really don't normally do well in the cold weather. So like I said, I am just going to make the decision based on how I feel when we get out there and warm up on Sunday."

Our View: Burress can play through pain, but coach Tom Coughlin may opt to hold him out as the Giants hold a three-game lead in the NFC East with a 9-1 record.
Plaxico Burress, WR Friday 11/21, 1:37 PM CT
Plaxico Burress is “questionable” for Sunday’s game and is taking a “cautious” approach to his injured right hamstring, according to the Daily News. "A hamstring is one of those things where if it’s not feeling well and you can’t run, you can’t run,” Burress said. “It’s not something you can cover up or anything like that."

Our View: Burress has missed the last two days of practice and he seems like a risky play at this point. Coach Tom Coughlin alluded to his availability having to do with more than his health. He wants Burress to be prepared to put his heart into the game on Sunday.
Brandon Jacobs, RB Friday 11/21, 1:33 PM CT
The New York Daily News reports that running back Brandon Jacobs is listed as probable for Week 12.

Our View: He will probably share some of the load with Derrick Ward, but with 11 touchdowns and a 5.4 yards per carry average, you can't afford to sit him.
Plaxico Burress, WR Friday 11/21, 12:05 PM CT
Plaxico Burress was on the sidelines riding an exercise bike during Giants' practice on Friday, according to the Daily News.

Our View: That makes two straight days of missed practices for Burress, who is nursing a strained hamstring. He is expected (required, actually) to address the media later today, so hopefully we’ll have some more information for you then.
Brandon Jacobs, RB Thursday 11/20, 1:06 PM CT
Brandon Jacobs, who is dealing with a knee ailment, is practicing Thursday, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View: If he doesn't suffer a setback, he looks to have a shot to play this weekend at Arizona, but the club could still hold him out with a 9-1 record and three-game lead in the NFC East.
Plaxico Burress, WR Thursday 11/20, 1:03 PM CT
Plaxico Burress was not in action at the start of Thursday's practice, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View: He was on the sideline getting stretched out. He will keep you posted on his status for Week 12 at Arizona.
Gerris Wilkinson, LB Wednesday 11/19, 5:57 PM CT
Gerris Wilkinson was limited in practice on Wednesday, according to the Giants' official site.

Our View: Wilkinson doesn't have any fantasy value.
Aaron Ross, CB Wednesday 11/19, 11:50 AM CT
Aaron Ross was held out of Wednesday's practice while nursing a hamstring ailment, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View: Coach Tom Coughlin expects him to be ready to practice Thursday. Ross is a solid NFL cornerback and notched his first two interceptions of 2008 last weekend in a winning effort against Baltimore. He will be needed this week while contending with Kurt Warner and the Cardinals' dynamic aerial attack.
Brandon Jacobs, RB Wednesday 11/19, 11:47 AM CT
Brandon Jacobs is sitting out Wednesday's practice while nursing his knee ailment, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View: Coach Tom Coughlin is optimistic he will practice tomorrow, and noted that Jacobs is day-to-day.
Brandon Jacobs, RB Wednesday 11/19, 9:08 AM CT
Brandon Jacobs feels he can play Sunday against the Cardinals, but the Giants remain concerned about swelling in his ailing knee, and the bruising running back may be held out as a precaution, according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View: The Giants hold a three-game lead at 9-1 in the NFC East, and there is no urgency for Jacobs to play. Derrick Ward would likely start in his place, and the solid back is worth handcuffing for insurance if available.
Brandon Jacobs, RB Tuesday 11/18, 11:46 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, Jacobs says he's "good to go" for Sunday's game, but it's HC Tom Couglin's call, according to Newsday.com.

Our View: Jacobs might be a risky fantasy player for this week, as the Giants have two other solid backs in Derrick Ward and Ahmad Bradshaw. Even if Jacobs plays, he could see reduced carries.
Brandon Jacobs, RB Tuesday 11/18, 11:54 AM CT
Updating an earlier report, Brandon Jacobs may not play in Week 12 due to his knee injury, according to the NY Daily News. He said, "I could line up and go play on Sunday if our team was in serious need of a running back. But as everyone knows, they’re not. We have a stable of horses lined up and ready to go. So I could play if I wanted to and I needed to, but I don’t know if they’ll let me."

Our View: His MRI showed no structural damage, but he is dealing with swelling that is causing concern. Fantasy owners may be wise to pick up Derrick Ward for insurance if available on the waiver wire, in case Jacobs is held out.
Brandon Jacobs, RB Tuesday 11/18, 9:03 AM CT
Brandon Jacobs' MRI revealed no structural damage to his knee, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View: His injury is nothing serious, and his knee is just swollen and sore. He is expected to play this weekend against Arizona.
Lawrence Tynes, K Monday 11/17, 1:35 PM CT
Neither Lawrence Tynes nor John Carney will be named the permanent kicker for the New York Giants, as the team will make a decision on who will kick for them on a game-by-game basis, the New York Daily News reports. "I’m not going to say it’s one way or the other. It’s a week to week or game to game decision," said Giants coach Tom Coughlin.

Our View: Now fantasy owners have a Denver running back/Mike Shanahan situation with kickers. If you are really devoted to having a Giants kicker on your roster, then you'll have to monitor the situation every Sunday. Otherwise, it may be easier just to get another kicker off the waiver wire.
Brandon Jacobs, RB Monday 11/17, 1:30 PM CT
Giants running back Brandon Jacobs will have an MRI on his swollen knee, but the team does not believe the injury is serious, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View: The Giants play Arizona next week, and the team expects Jacobs to be on the field, but if not, Derrick Ward and Ahmad Bradshaw would both see more action than usual.
Brandon Jacobs, RB Sunday 11/16, 5:36 PM CT
Running back Brandon Jacobs injured his knee during the Week 11 win over the Ravens. "He took a shot on the knee and he is sore, very sore," head coach Tom Coughlin tells the team's official web site. Jacobs counters, "I could have gone out there and played but we have two other backs in there and there was no need to do that."

Our View: It's tough to judge from the post-game comments where Jacobs is at, but we'll have a good idea about his Week 12 status once the practice week begins on Wednesday. The good news is that it's clearly not too serious.
Aaron Ross, CB Sunday 11/16, 4:05 PM CT
Cornerback Aaron Ross picked off two passes in the Week 11 win over the Ravens. He took one back 50 yards for a score. Those were his first interceptions of the season.

Our View: Ross hasn't established himself as an IDP talent yet, but the former first-round pick has skills and could be improving. Keep an eye on him down the stretch, as he could be a sleeper going into 2009.
Brandon Jacobs, RB Sunday 11/16, 3:04 PM CT
Running back Brandon Jacobs rushed 11 times for 73 yards and two scores in the Week 11 win over the Ravens.

Our View: Jacobs didn't play much after dominating the game early on. He may have tweaked an ankle, but the more likely scenario is that he was rested with the Giants up by a sizable margin.
John Carney, K Sunday 11/16, 11:13 AM CT
Week 11 inactives: K John Carney, RB Danny Ware, CB Kevin Dockery, LB Jonathan Goff, LB Gerris Wilkinson, OL Adam Koets, WR Mario Manningham, DE Jerome McDougle.

Our View: Lawrence Tynes replaced Carney due to the heavy winds in New York. There are no other surprises here.
Lawrence Tynes, K Sunday 11/16, 10:57 AM CT
Kicker Lawrence Tynes is active and will start over John Carney for the Week 11 game against the Ravens. They prefer Tynes's stronger leg over Carney due to the windy conditions.

Our View: Fantasy owners who've been using Carney need to make a late switch.
Eli Manning, QB Sunday 11/16, 10:30 AM CT
Swirling, rough winds may make it tough to pass in the Week 11 game between the Giants and the Ravens, the New York Daily News reports.

Our View: We doubt many fantasy owners were counting on the Ravens passing attack, but this report may make readers think twice about some of the Giants' options. We could see a run-heavy slugfest this Sunday.
Ahmad Bradshaw, RB Saturday 11/15, 1:10 PM CT
The Giants plan on increasing Ahmad Bradshaw's workload as the season wears on, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: The idea is to help prevent Brandon Jacobs and Derrick Ward from burning out. Bradshaw is a threat to score every time he touches the ball, and could be worth a look for the stretch run in deeper leagues.
Kareem Mckenzie, T Friday 11/14, 2:43 PM CT
Kareem McKenzie was arrested for a DUI Thursday night, according to the Associated Press. He was pulled over at about 9:30 p.m. (EST) after he cut through a Coastal Gas Station on Route 23. McKenzie was deemed to be over the legal limit of .08 after failing a breathalyzer test. Coach Tom Coughlin said, "It’s an error, it’s a mistake. We’re disappointed and he’s disappointed. I can tell you he’s going to be the hardest on himself."

Our View: McKenzie, who is considered the Giants' best offensive lineman at right tackle, is expected to start Sunday's game against the Ravens.
Corey Webster, CB Monday 11/10, 11:32 AM CT
Corey Webster suffered a groin injury in Sunday's win over the Eagles, but he was able to return in the second half and finish the game, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View: Webster is not a solid starting cornerback, but has been productive with three interceptions and a fumble recovery. As of now, it appears to be a good bet he will be able to go in Week 11 against the Ravens.
Jonathan Goff, LB Monday 11/10, 11:28 AM CT
Jonathan Goff suffered a concussion during Sunday night's battle with Philadelphia, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View: Goff holds no value as a backup linebacker, but has been a favorable contributor on special teams.
Plaxico Burress, WR Sunday 11/9, 11:19 PM CT
Plaxico Burress caught one ball for 16 yards and a score in the Giants' 36-31 win over the Eagles.

Our View: Ever since Burress' suspension he just hasn't been the same. He has only caught 14 passes in his last five games.
Kevin Boss, TE Sunday 11/9, 10:55 PM CT
Tight end Kevin Boss caught six passes for 69 yards and a score in the Giants' 36-31 win over the Eagles in Philadelphia.

Our View: This was Boss' best outing of the year and of his short career. The touchdown was his fourth score of the year.
Eli Manning, QB Sunday 11/9, 10:52 PM CT
Eli Manning completed only 17 of his 31 pass attempts for 191 yards but did throw two scores. The Giants beat the Eagles 36-31.

Our View: Manning has now thrown 14 touchdown passes to go along with six interceptions.
Brandon Jacobs, RB Sunday 11/9, 10:48 PM CT
Giants running back Brandon Jacobs rushed for 126 yards and two scores in the Giants' 36-31 win over the Eagles.

Our View: This is the second straight game that Jacobs has rushed for 100 yards and his fourth 100 yard game in 2008. Jacobs is really making a name for himself in the NFL.
Reuben Droughns, RB Sunday 11/9, 6:55 PM CT
Giants inactive players: OT Adam Koets, RB Danny Ware, LB Gerris Wilkinson, FS James Butler, DL Jerome McDougle, CB Kevin Dockery, WR Mario Manningham, RB Reuben Droughns

Our View: Nobody has any fantasy value for the Giants.
Kenny Phillips, S Saturday 11/8, 11:31 AM CT
Giants safety Kenny Phillips, the team's first-round pick in April, will make his first career start for the team on Sunday, according to the New York Post.

Our View: James Butler injured his knee last week, clearling the way for Phillips. He had an impressive preseason, and has played some this year, collecting an interception, but he'll see his most extensive playing time of the year Sunday. IDP owners should keep an eye on him, as he certainly has playmaking abilities.
Justin Tuck, DE Saturday 11/8, 10:48 AM CT
The $7,500 fine that Giants defensive end Justin Tuck received for hitting Dallas quarterback Brooks Bollinger was rescinded by the NFL, according to ESPN.com.

Our View: Tuck hit Bollinger just after Bollinger threw a pass, and it would have been impossible to stop. The fine was criticized by many people, so the NFL seemingly did the right thing.
James Butler, S Friday 11/7, 2:48 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, James Butler has been ruled out for Week 10 after missing Friday's practice due to his sprained ankle, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Rookie Kenny Phillips will replace Butler at strong safety, and is worth a look in IDP leagues against the pass-happy Eagles.
Gerris Wilkinson, LB Friday 11/7, 12:37 PM CT
Gerris Wilkinson missed Friday's practice due to his sprained knee, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View: If unable to play in Week 10, Chase Blackburn would be the top candidate to replace him at weakside linebacker, hence giving him some fantasy value for the week.
James Butler, S Friday 11/7, 12:34 PM CT
James Butler practiced on a limited basis yesterday, but sat out Friday's practice due to his ankle injury, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View: Kenny Phillips would likely replace him at strong safety if unable to go Sunday against the Eagles. Butler is not a solid pro, and the Giants would manage fine with Phillips, who has more upside as a rookie.
Justin Tuck, DE Friday 11/7, 10:39 AM CT
Updating an earlier report, Justin Tuck intends to appeal his $7,500 fine for his roughing-the-passer penalty on Brooks Bollinger in Week 9 against Dallas, according to ESPN.

Our View: The fine was issued by Gene Washington, the NFL's director of football operations. Coach Tom Coughlin didn't believe Tuck's hit on Bollinger merited a flag, or a fine.
Justin Tuck, DE Friday 11/7, 7:27 AM CT
Justin Tuck has been fined $7,500 for his roughing-the-passer penalty on Brooks Bollinger in Week 9 against Dallas, according to the Associated Press. Tuck said, "Our job description is basically to destroy a quarterback, but you’ve got to pick and choose how to do it. You can’t hit him in the head, you can’t hit him below the knees. Obviously, you can’t hit him hard, either."

Our View: Giants' coach Tom Coughlin does not believe the hit was worth a fine.
James Butler, S Thursday 11/6, 3:16 PM CT
James Butler, who is recovering from a knee injury, practiced Thursday, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View: He is expected to play Sunday in a key NFC East battle against the Eagles. He is not a solid pro, but is the Giants' starting strong safety, and the team will be pleased to have him while contending with Donovan McNabb and the Eagles' high-flying offense.
Cliff Louis, T Wednesday 11/5, 10:54 PM CT
The New York Giants announced on Wednesday that they have signed offensive tackle Cliff Louis to their practice squad, according to NFL.com.

Our View: Louis was added to the organization to add depth to their offensive line.
David Tyree, WR Wednesday 11/5, 10:29 AM CT
David Tyree has been placed on season-ending IR, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View: The medical staff feels he is still not fit to return, as he needs more time to recover from off-season knee surgery.
David Tyree, WR Monday 11/3, 6:01 PM CT
The AP reports that The Giants have until Wednesday to make a decision on the future of receiver David Tyree. The Super Bowl hero was placed on the physically unable to perform list before the start of training camp because he was still recovering from offseason knee surgery. “Well, we will see,” coach Tom Coughlin said Monday. “Obviously, you are talking about a guy that has played extremely well for our team. But it is again going to come down to the decision this week on where we are physically.”

Our View: Tyree does not figure to make any kind of impact in fantasy leagues even if he is activated.
Kevin Boss, TE Monday 11/3, 2:19 PM CT
Kevin Boss suffered an ankle injury during Sunday's win over Dallas, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View: The injury is said to be minor, and he should be ready to play in Week 10 against the Eagles.
James Butler, S Monday 11/3, 8:16 AM CT
James Butler sprained his knee in Sunday's win over Dallas, but is confident he will be able to play in Week 10 in another key NFC East battle with the Eagles, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View: He noted that he will know more regarding his status Monday. This is encouraging news for the Giants as he is their starting strong safety.
Steve Smith, WR Sunday 11/2, 10:10 PM CT
Steve Smith made the first touchdown reception of his young NFL career on Sunday against Dallas. He had 29 yards receiving total on five receptions.

Our View: Smith is a part of one of the most potent passing attacks in the league.
Amani Toomer, WR Sunday 11/2, 10:01 PM CT
Amani Toomer caught two passes for 26 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's win over the Cowboys.

Our View: Toomer isn't much of a fantasy option anymore, but he continues to be a solid veteran in the Giants' receiving core.
Kevin Boss, TE Sunday 11/2, 9:59 PM CT
Kevin Boss caught three passes for 30 yards and one touchdown Sunday against Dallas.

Our View: Boss continues to impress and prove that trading former number one tight end Jeremy Shockey to the Saints was a fine move.
Derrick Ward, RB Sunday 11/2, 9:45 PM CT
Derrick Ward had a strong day backing up Brandon Jacobs, rushing for 63 yards and one touchdown on 12 carries on Sunday against the Cowboys.

Our View: Ward doesn't get enough consistent playing time to be a reliable fantasy option, but makes for a good depth player on most rosters.
Brandon Jacobs, RB Sunday 11/2, 9:41 PM CT
Brandon Jacobs had a huge day against the Cowboys on Sunday, rushing for 117 yards and one touchdown on 17 carries.

Our View: Barber continues to be a fantasy stud and a must-start in all leagues.
Eli Manning, QB Sunday 11/2, 9:02 PM CT
Eli Manning completed 16 out of 27 passes for just 147 yards, but also had three touchdowns opposed to just one interception. However, Manning also lost two fumbles.

Our View: Turnovers have been Manning's biggest issue for most of his career, and it has been the main source of his recent struggles as well.
James Butler, S Sunday 11/2, 5:23 PM CT
James Butler was forced out of Sunday's game against Dallas due to an apparent sprained knee, according to the live FOX broadcast.

Our View: Butler is merely adequate as a pro, and the Giants would manage fine if he misses time with the injury. As a fantasy performer, he only ranks as a reserve for IDP leagues.
Lawrence Tynes, K Sunday 11/2, 2:18 PM CT
K Lawrence Tynes, CB R.W. McQuarters, RB Danny Ware, CB Kevin Dockery, LB Gerris Wilkinson, OL Adam Koets, WR Mario Manningham, and DE Jerome McDougle are all inactive for Week 9.

Our View: John Carney remains the Giants' kicker with Tynes deemed inactive.
John Carney, K Saturday 11/1, 11:22 AM CT
Coach Tom Coughlin has said that his placekicker for Sunday's game against the Cowboys will be a game-time decision between John Carney and Lawrence Tynes, according to the New York Post.

Our View: We're betting that it is Carney who is 18-for-19 on field goals for the Giants this season while Tynes has yet to kick a meaningful field goal. The coach's wait-and-see approach is particularly frustrating for fantasy owners.
