Lofa Tatupu, LB Thursday 8/28, 1:49 PM CT
Updating a previous report, Lofa Tatupu merely has a bone bruise on his right knee and will be able to play in Week 1 against the Bills, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

Our View: The team is relieved he is expected to be fine, as well as fantasy owners who drafted him.
Lofa Tatupu, LB Wednesday 8/27, 5:59 PM CT
Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren said Wednesday that he expects LB Lofa Tatupu to be back for Week 1, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: Look for Tatupu to be back on the field week 1 leading the Seattle defense.
Jeff Robinson, TE Wednesday 8/27, 3:58 PM CT
The Seattle Seahawks signed Jeff Robinson to be the team's long snapper, according to the Tacoma News Tribune.

Our View: Robinson was with the team last December and in the playoffs as their long snapper. However, they let him go and drafted Tyler Schmitt in the sixth round of the draft to take over. However, he went in injured reserve, so Robinson is back.
Lofa Tatupu, LB Tuesday 8/26, 11:33 PM CT
The Seahawks have yet to release the results of the MRI on Lofa Tatupu's knee, but Frank Hughes of the News Tribune speculates that the knee is just bruised, which was the initial diagnosis.

Our View: Unless the Seahawks announce something different tomorrow, expect Tatupu to be fine for Week 1.
Charlie Frye, QB Tuesday 8/26, 12:34 PM CT
Charlie Frye will undergo an MRI on his injured knee, but the ailment is not believed to be serious (no ligament damage), according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: Frye will likely serve as the No. 3 quarterback this season behind primary backup Seneca Wallace.
Lofa Tatupu, LB Monday 8/25, 10:48 PM CT
Seahawks Pro Bowl linebacker Lofa Tatupu injured his leg in the Seahawks preseason game against the Chargers, and was seen using crutches to walk in the locker room after the game, according to the Tacoma News Tribune.

Our View: Tatupu is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Tuesday to find out the severity of the injury. Obviously, anything serious hurts the Seahawks D/ST unit, along with his value in IDP leagues.
T.J. Duckett, RB Monday 8/25, 9:58 PM CT
T.J. Duckett finally showed something, running the ball six times for 46 yards in his team's 18-17 loss to the Chargers in their preseason contest on Monday.

Our View: Duckett had not done much during the preseason, leading to whispers that he could be cut before the season started. But Monday's performance could be enough to keep that from happening.
Charlie Frye, QB Monday 8/25, 9:51 PM CT
Seahawks quarterback Charlie Frye left his team's preseason game against the Chargers with an injury to his knee, according to the Tacoma News Tribune. He had played very well up until that point in the game, going 19-of-29 for 219 yards and two touchdowns.

Our View: There has been no word on what the exact nature of the injury is, or how serious it may be.
Matt Hasselbeck, QB Monday 8/25, 11:07 AM CT
Matt Hasselbeck did not travel with the Seahawks for Monday's game at San Diego due to his sore back, according to The News Tribune.

Our View: He was not going to play anyway, and coach Mike Holmgren didn't want to risk making his back ailment worse from the rigors of a plane flight. He is expected to be ready for Week 1, but is a risky fantasy prospect, especially when you consider the current state of the Seahawks' receiving corps.
Nate Burleson, WR Wednesday 8/20, 7:09 PM CT
Nate Burleson is no longer going to be returning punts for the Seahawks, even though he has had past success doing it, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: With the injury problems to the Seahawks wide receiver corp, Burleson is the No. 1 option there. Losing him to an injury on special teams is not an option, thus the move was made. Burleson has the potential to be a breakout player this season should he continue to be the No. 1 guy.
Deion Branch, WR Wednesday 8/20, 2:52 PM CT
Coach Mike Holmgren is hopeful Deion Branch would be back soon, but wondered how Branch might respond when he gets into a game, based on what he has seen from other receivers coming back from ACL surgery, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: Branch is worth drafting if he falls into the late rounds, but should not be expected to post strong numbers.
Matt Hasselbeck, QB Wednesday 8/20, 2:44 PM CT
Matt Hasselbeck is uncertain to play in the Seahawks' next preseason game due to back stiffness, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: Charlie Frye is likely to get the start at quarterback Monday against San Diego. Hasselbeck's back is still sore and tight, but coach Mike Holmgren is not very concerned, and expects him to be ready to go for Week 1.
Matt Hasselbeck, QB Tuesday 8/19, 3:06 PM CT
After practicing for the first time in about a week due to back stiffness, Seattle quarterback Matt Hasselbeck was forced to leave practice on Tuesday when the malady flared up on him, according to the Tacoma News Tribune.

Our View: No word on whether this is a minor setback or something more serious. Hasselbeck was supposed to be ready to play in the team's preseason game against the Bears, though that could obviously change.
Matt Hasselbeck, QB Tuesday 8/19, 11:21 AM CT
Seattle quarterback Matt Hasselbeck returned to the practice field after missing much of last week and the team's preseason contest against Chicago because of a sore back, according to the Tacoma News Tribune.

Our View: Hasselbeck is ready to go and will play in the team's upcoming preseason contest.
Chris Spencer, C Tuesday 8/19, 11:17 AM CT
Seahawks center Chris Spencer is close to full health and has returned to the practice field, though he did not fully participate, according to the Tacoma News Tribune. He had been suffering from a lower back injury.

Our View: The Seahawks offensive line had been scuffling a bit without their center, so Spencer's return should provide them with a lift.
Lawrence Jackson, DE Monday 8/18, 6:11 PM CT
First-round pick Lawrence Jackson will start his second straight preseason game at defensive end over veteran Darryl Tapp, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: Jackson is better against the run than the pass, so he doesn't figure to get much love in IDP leagues.
Dallas Sartz, LB Monday 8/18, 9:09 AM CT
Dallas Sartz is considered a longshot to make the Seahawks' final roster at linebacker, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: The team is deep at the position with Lofa Tatupu, Leroy Hill, Julian Peterson, D.D. Lewis, and Lance Laury, and Sartz lacks the speed and athleticism needed for their system.
Justin Forsett, RB Monday 8/18, 9:04 AM CT
Rookie seventh-rounder Justin Forsett is projected to make the Seahawks' final roster, according to the Seattle Times. He lacks size and great speed, but impressed the club with his 136-yard preseason performance against the Bears.

Our View: He will sit on the bottom of the depth chart at running back, meaning he will hold little fantasy value, unless the team works him into the offense as a pass-specialist. Forsett can also work as a return man.
Jordan Kent, WR Monday 8/18, 8:59 AM CT
Jordan Kent is expected to make the Seahawks' final roster, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: He should make the team unless he struggles in the Seahawks' remaining preseason contests. He would work behind Deion Branch, Nate Burleson, Bobby Engram, and Courtney Taylor, meaning his fantasy value will be limited.
LeRoy Hill, LB Sunday 8/17, 1:11 PM CT
LeRoy Hill led the defense in Saturday's 29-26 preseason win over the Bears, according to the News Tribune. He racked up four solo tackles, with a sack and an interception. Hill said, "We consider ourselves a play-making defense. Obviously that’s what John Marshall, (defensive coordinator) wants us to do. And it shows we’re in the right position to make plays. It’s a preseason game and everything, but it shows where we are at."

Our View: Hill is one of the best pass-rushers on the Seahawks, and also ranks among the most under-rated linebackers in the NFL. He should enjoy another solid campaign, and will hold favorable fantasy value as a backup and spot-starter in IDP leagues.
John Carlson, TE Sunday 8/17, 1:04 PM CT
John Carlson had a tough outing against the Bears Saturday, as he was flagged for three penalties (two false starts and a holding call), according to the News Tribune. The rookie tight end said, "False starts are always a lack of concentration. I don’t have any excuse for it. It’s my fault. It’s something that I need to improve upon and make sure it doesn’t happen again." He had one catch for eight yards.

Our View: Carlson is projected to start as a rookie and could be productive as the Seahawks' receiving corps has been thinned out by injuries, but he will not last long if he continues to rack up penalties.
Sean Locklear, G Sunday 8/17, 12:57 PM CT
Sean Locklear has sprained his left knee during preseason battle against Chicago, and will miss the remainder of the preseason, according to the News Tribune.

Our View: The Seahawks will know more about Locklear’s status after he receives an MRI scan today. Locklear is projected to start at right tackle, so his absence could weaken the Seahawks' offensive line if he is not ready to go in Week 1.
Justin Forsett, RB Saturday 8/16, 11:36 PM CT
Running back Justin Forsett starred in the preseason win over the Bears on Saturday. He rushed 15 times for 136 yards and a touchdown.

Our View: We know that the Seahawks will keep Julius Jones, Maurice Morris, and Leonard Weaver, and the smallish Forsett may need to beat out T.J. Duckett if he hopes to win a roster spot. The rookie's efforts through two preseason games have helped his quest.
Brandon Coutu, K Saturday 8/16, 11:29 PM CT
Kicker Brandon Coutu made a strong case for a starting job on Saturday night. He made all five of his field goal attempts against the Bears, including a game-winning 36-yard shot in overtime. Two of the rookie's kicks came from beyond 45 yards (46, 48).

Our View: Coutu is battling veteran Olindo Mare for the starting job, and the youngster likely closed any gap with his effort on Saturday. There's a potential for decent fantasy value if one guy can seize the job.
Courtney Taylor, WR Thursday 8/14, 2:27 PM CT
Coach Mike Holmgren commented that he expects the starting flanker to lead the Seahawks in catches this season, and Courtney Taylor is currently working in that spot with Deion Branch and Bobby Engram both on the shelf with injuries, according to the News Tribune. Nate Burleson is expected to play at split end.

Our View: Taylor could emerge as a super-sleeper to employ at the start of the season. Ben Obamanu is also in the mix for the flanker job for Week 1.
Patrick Kerney, DE Thursday 8/14, 2:19 PM CT
Patrick Kerney has returned to practice Thursday, according to the Seattle Times. He has been dealing with a strained calf.

Our View: If healthy, Kerney would be a top-10 defensive lineman for IDP leagues. He is coming off a strong 2007 campaign in which he racked up 60 tackles (49 solo), 14.5 sacks, and one interception with five forced fumbles.
Matt Hasselbeck, QB Thursday 8/14, 2:15 PM CT
Matt Hasselbeck has returned to practice Thursday, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: Hasselbeck may miss the next preseason game Saturday, but should get plenty of work in during the Seahawks' third exhibition outing.
Matt Hasselbeck, QB Wednesday 8/13, 4:24 PM CT
Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck is still nursing a sore back, and he has sat out three practices in a row, making it highly unlikely he will play in the team's preseason game Saturday against the Bears, according to the Tacoma News Tribune.

Our View: This is likely just a precautionary move, as the injury is supposedly minor. Hasselbeck missing one preseason game isn't going to affect him during the season.
Courtney Taylor, WR Tuesday 8/12, 1:32 PM CT
With both Deion Branch and Bobby Engram out, it looks like Courtney Taylor could be the huge beneficiary. Courtney Taylor will compete with Ben Obomanu for the No. 2 spot at wide receiver across from Nate Burleson.

Our View: Taylor could be a huge sleeper if he can claim the job.
Bobby Engram, WR Monday 8/11, 5:36 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, Bobby Engram cannot be placed on the PUP list since he was injured after camp began which means he will have to take a spot on the team's active roster heading into the season, according to the News Tribune.

Our View: As a result of this situation, the team will likely have to cut either Justin Forsett of David Hawthorne to leave the roster spot open for Engram, even if he can't play the first couple of weeks of the regular season.
Deion Branch, WR Monday 8/11, 5:30 PM CT
Deion Branch (ACL surgery) will need to practice for at least a week with the team before he will be considered for game action, according to the News Tribune.

Our View: With the injury to Bobby Engram the team might try to push Branch back into action, but even so, it is unknown if Branch will be healthy enough to play by the time Week 1 rolls around.
Matt Hasselbeck, QB Monday 8/11, 2:11 PM CT
Matt Hasselbeck sat out practice Monday as he is nursing a sore back, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: The ailment is believed to be minor, and fantasy owners should be more concerned with the state of the Seahawks' receiving corps, which is already without Deion Branch, and just lost Bobby Engram for 6-8 weeks.
Marcus Tubbs, DT Monday 8/11, 2:06 PM CT
Marcus Tubbs has been released by the Seahawks, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: Tubbs was a first-round pick back in 2004, but he underwent surgery to repair a torn knee ligament suffered last season in an exhibition game, and was released because he failed a physical.
Bobby Engram, WR Monday 8/11, 1:57 PM CT
Bobby Engram will miss 6-8 weeks due to a cracked bone in his shoulder, according to the News Tribune.

Our View: Engram was a top-32 fantasy receiver prior to this news. Courtney Taylor moves up the depth chart into Engram's spot, but Ben Obomanu will give him competition. Engram will not be back before Week 3 of the regular season.
Patrick Kerney, DE Saturday 8/9, 2:10 PM CT
Patrick Kerney has nearly recovered from a strained calf and he should return to practice sometime next week, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: Kerney was a monster with 60 tackles, 14.5 sacks and five forced fumbles a year ago. He is clearly someone to target in IDP leagues.
Julius Jones, RB Wednesday 8/6, 8:27 PM CT
Reports out of Seattle indicate coach Mike Holmgren has every intention of using both Julius Jones and Maurice Morris as vital parts of the offense, and both are likely to receive a healthy dose of work as receivers, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

Our View: According to the report, Holmgren fears neither rusher is capable of working as the primary guy and thus they will be used in tandem, but the hope of getting them involved in the passing game is rather intriguing. Former top rusher Shaun Alexander was never a threat in the passing game, but both Jones and Morris have enjoyed strong production in such a role, and those efforts could increase their fantasy value. We'll keep you posted on their progress as training camp moves along.
Wesly Mallard, S Wednesday 8/6, 3:08 PM CT
Wesly Mallard has been placed on the IR due to a hamstring injury, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View: Mallard was not going to see action in the Seahawks' secondary, and his only chance to make the team and contribute was on special teams.
Jordan Kent, WR Tuesday 8/5, 9:27 PM CT
Jordan Kent and Ben Obomanu both turned in impressive performances at training camp on Tuesday, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports.

Our View: Logan Payne has also been earning some good reviews, and it's too early to truly say how all the young Seahawks will shake out behind Bobby Engram and Nate Burleson. All we know is that Courtney Taylor better start putting in some good work.
Chris Gray, G Monday 8/4, 3:04 PM CT
Chris Gray has retired from the NFL, according to The News Tribune.

Our View: He has sustained a low-back spine injury in practice, and doctors didn't really give him a choice about retiring because if he injured it again he risked paralysis. For his immediate future, he would like to do some marketing for the Seahawks. Gray was competing for a backup job at center with the team.
T.J. Duckett, RB Sunday 8/3, 5:22 PM CT
T.J. Duckett may or may not even make the Seahawks this season, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: The report says that Duckett will likely make the team if they keep five backs, but if they cut back to four then rookie Owen Schmidt would likely be kept over Duckett.
Deion Branch, WR Sunday 8/3, 5:20 PM CT
Deion Branch (knee) is progressing well in his comeback and has looked very good in agility drills and running sprints in the first week of practice, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: Branch could still miss the start of the regular season, but that might lower his draft day value to the point of being a steal if he could produce as he has in the past in the second half.
Red Bryant, DT Friday 8/1, 11:48 AM CT
The Seahawks fourth-round selection, defensive tackle Red Bryant, will need to have arthroscopic surgery on his knee and he will miss the remainder of training camp, according to the Tacoma News Tribune.

Our View: This makes it less likely that Bryant will be much of a contributor this year, but it also means that players like Larry Tripplett will get more snaps. The 'Hawks have a deep group of defensive tackles, so they should be okay at the position until Bryant returns.
Julius Jones, RB Friday 8/1, 7:45 AM CT
The Seattle Seahawks are planning on using their running backs in the passing offense more, according to the Seattle Times. "I'm doing a lot of different things than I've ever done before. Things that I've always wanted to do but I was never allowed to do in Dallas," Julius Jones said.

Our View: The running back situation may still wind up being the dreaded running back by committee, but knowing that Jones and the others will be used in the passing game is a boon for fantasy players. In the past, Seattle had not used Shaun Alexander much to catch the ball.
