With neither Rex Grossman nor Kyle Orton doing much to make themselves stand out, the Chicago Bears would likely jump at the chance to acquire Chris Simms, but only if he is cut, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View:The Bears apparently don't want to make a trade for Simms, but it seems unlikely that Tampa would just let him go for free. If Orton and Grossman don't pick it up, however, it wouldn't be shocking to see Chicago make a play for Simms.

Derrick Brooks, LB

Wednesday 7/16, 5:03 PM CT

Derrick Brooks will have his playing time reduced in the coming season, but after 14 years the team will not push him to hang up his cleats this season, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View:The report stated that Brooks will be welcomed this season in a reduced role, but the team hopes that he might consider hanging up his cleats after this season, though he still has two years left on his contract. At least he won't be cut loose unceremoniously as former star Simeon Rice was last year.

Chris Simms, QB

Tuesday 7/15, 8:18 AM CT

Chris Simms is unlikely to join the Lions, as suggested by the Detroit News. Although Simms is good friends with receiver Roy Williams (they were team-mates at Texas), the chances are slim the Lions will make a play for the quarterback if he is offered in a trade.

Our View:The Bears, Cowboys, and Lions were the three clubs reportedly interested in Simms, who hasn't played since 2006 due to a ruptured spleen.
