Newsbreakers
September 12, 2008
Kimmo Timonen had a blood clot in his leg at the end of last season, and though it bothered him into the summer, he feels like he will be ready to go once camp starts, according to Philly Blurbs. "It probably will never be back to "normal,' but it's [at a place] where he could say normal."

Our View:Apparently he had a pretty grueling regimen of injections through the off-season, but confidence is high that he will be able to contribute his steady offense and solid defense for the Flyers this year.

Kimmo Timonen was dealing with a blood cut in his left leg at the end of the 2007-08 campaign, but is expected to be ready for the start of training camp, according to the Phillyburbs.com. Timonen said, "I saw a doctor a few days ago, and he says it's almost back to normal."

Our View:The 33-year-old is a solid fantasy defenseman when healthy, and it appears that he will make a full recovery from his ailment.

Kimmo Timonen was able to return from a blood clot in his left ankle to play in Game 5 for the Flyers, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:The Flyers will need him if they have any hope of coming back against the Penguins, but his return may be too little, too late.

If Kimmo Timonen gets through practice without any issues today, and can deal with numbness and pain in his injured foot, he expects to be in the lineup tomorrow in Pittsburgh for Game 5, according to the Baltimore Sun. The prognosis on the blood clot in his left ankle has improved and Timonen said, " At least now I know there's no danger. It's just a matter of how much pain I can take."

Our View:Philadelphia is down in the series 3-1, and they gravely need Timonen back in the lineup. We will keep you posted on how his workout goes.

Kimmo Timonen is going to skate on his own today with the hopes of playing as early as Sunday in Pittsburgh, according to the Courier Post. It had been thought that the defenseman was done for the year after doctors discovered a blood clot in his left foot, but it appears the injury isn't as severe as initially thought. Timonen said the decision over whether to return or not now rests with him. "If I feel (today) that I'm good to go for Sunday, then I'm good for Sunday," he said. "There is nothing to prevent me from playing.

Our View:The Flyers' playoff hopes are hanging on by a thread, and they could certainly use Timonen in the lineup. We'll let you know how his workout goes.

Flyers defensmen Kimmo Timonen is close to returning to the ice from a blood clot in his ankle that has kept him out of action, according to the Associated Press. “There is nothing to prevent me from playing. I may have numbness in my toes, but if I can deal with that then I can play. We took another ultrasound, and based on that the doctor said I have a green light to give it a try. The doctor feels that there is no chance the clot is going to get loose or break up or anything like that. It’s a great sign.

Our View:Timonen is an immense presence on defense for what the Flyers try to do to other team's top skaters, so his return would make a huge difference, though its likely too late with the Flyers trailing three games to one.

The Flyers received some terrible news with the report that offensive defensmen Kimmo Timonen will likely miss the entire Eastern Conference Finals series with the Penguins because of a blood clot in his ankle, according to NHL.com. Jaroslav Modry or Ryan Parent will likely fill in.

Our View:More than missing his offense, the Flyers will miss Timonen's defensive ability as he helped to hold Alexander Ovechkin and Alexei Kovalev down in the first two rounds. Look for Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby to have even more room to work their magic.

With the Philadelphia Flyers finally reversing recent fortunes and picking up a 4-2 win in last night's Eastern Conference semifinal playoff series, Philly defenseman Kimmo Timonen wasted no time in sending a message, and Montreal forward Tom Kostopoulos was more than happy to return the sentiment, according to SLAM Sports. After Flyers center R.J. Umberger scored the fourth and final goal for Philly to clinch the win, Timonen directed his attention to the Canadiens bench, turned his back, and raised his arms. Kostopoulos didn't appreciate the gesture and landed a roundhouse left to Timonen's jaw. "I was upset we were losing," said Kostopoulos. Timonen responded, "I didn't say anything. I raised my hands and I got punched."

Our View:Flyers coach John Stevens added, "The only thing that kind of really disturbs me is that at the end of the game, Kostopoulos - hey, he's a tough kid and I've got a lot of respect for him and (Steve) Begin - but to go up and blindside-sucker Timonen on a play at the end there? That's cowardly, in my opinion." With the series tied 1-1, you can mark this as one to watch moving forward. Both teams are at the top of their games and are sure to use this incident as a point of motivation, not to mention the tone of hatred it adds (and that's always good for a hockey battle).

Philadelphia defenseman Kimmo Timonen may deserve the star of the evening as the Flyers pull into the Eastern Conference semifinals, beating the Washington Capitals in Game 7 3-2.

Our View:Timonen registered two helpers, including the key pass on the game-winning goal by Joffrey Lupul in OT.
April 17, 2008
Kimmo Timonen will be available to play in Game 4 despite an injured shoulder, this according to the South Jersey Courier. "I'm ready to go," Timonen said.

Our View:Timonen has basically been shadowing Alexander Ovechkin wherever he goes on the ice, and in general, he has done a very good job of holding down the league's leading point producer.
April 15, 2008
