John Madden was nominated for the Selke Trophy awarded to the forward "who best excels in the defensive aspects of the game," according to NHL.com.

Our View:Madden has a long history of being one of the most defensively responsible forwards in the league, a reputation earned on the strength of capturing this award in 2000-01 and finishing runner up in 2002-03 and 2003-04. He also chipped in 20 goals this season for the second time in his career.

John Madden has been playing great in the post-season as he notably scored the game-winning OT goal against the Rangers on Sunday, and has earned more ice time and gained praise from Brent Sutter, according to the Newark Star Ledger. Sutter is very high on Madden right now and commented, "You try to play your top players on the power play, your most skilled guys who contribute maybe the most offensively on it. Sometimes you change things just to shake things up a little bit, but John's one of those guys that, since Day One, has played extremely well for this team. He's done everything that I've asked of a player to do. He's had a great year to date and he'll continue to play well, because he plays for the front of that jersey. That jersey means everything to him. He's a fiery guy. He's got the intensity and the intangibles that make up a winner. And his character showed Sunday night."

Our View:Madden only scored 42 points in the regular season, but contributed three goals over their four playoff games against the Rangers so far. His fantasy stock remains on the rise in the postseason.

It wasn't pretty, but John Madden will take it. The Devils center netted the game-winning overtime goal against the Rangers on Sunday and helped his club climb back into the series. "I’m not going to lie. It was a lot of luck," Madden admits to the AP. His shot went off the foot of defenseman Marc Staal.

Our View:Madden scored a career-high 43 points this season and added a goal in Game 2. Still, he doesn't very much fantasy value.
