Jason Blake will be a healthy scratch Thursday night as Toronto visits Boston, according to Sun Media. "I'm not going to compromise how I coach the team for the wrong reasons," coach Ron Wilson said this morning when explaining Blake's benching. “He’s not scoring, he’s not back checking, he's not doing this or not doing that (so) we’re going to keep him in the lineup until he catches a lucky break? That's not how I coach."

Our View:Blake has gotten off to a terrible start for the Leafs this year, with just three points in the Leafs first six games. We'll keep you posted, but for now, you'll be better off benching him as well.

Jason Blake scored two goals in Saturday's 4-3 loss to Detroit.

Our View:Blake scored 40 goals with the Islanders in 2006 after dipping to 15 in 2007 due to his treatment for Leukemia. His illness is believed to be behind him, and is off to a solid start in the preseason. He could once again rank as a starting fantasy forward in 2008.

Jason Blake scored only 15 goals last season in his first year in Toronto as he battled cancer, but he believes things are looking up this year, according to the Toronto Star. "Last year was a disaster for me on the ice and personally," said Blake. "I was actually at the doctor last week. Everything is definitely managed. I've put it behind me. It's good to be back and I'm ready to play. My mind is totally clear."

Our View:Blake signed a 5-year, $20 million deal to join the Leafs after a 40-goal season in 2006-07, so last year was obviously a disappointment. Still, he appeared in all 82 games and has averaged 26 goals a year over the past five seasons. He is worth a look later in drafts, especially if he returns to the power-play form that say him post 26 PP goals in 2005-06.
