Sabres forward Jason Pominville signed a five-year extension with the club, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:The financial particulars of the deal are not yet known, but Pominville emerged last season as one of the team's playmakers, tallying 80 points. He scored 27 goals and accumulated 53 assists to go along with a +/- of +16. They only thing he won't do for fantasy owners is rack up PIM, as he had just 20 last season.

Jason Pominville and the Sabres continue to work on a contract that the Pominville camp hopes will be finalized before the official start of camp, according to the Buffalo News. “It’s going well until the deal’s done. We’ll have to wait and see. Hopefully it’ll be done before. I’m just leaving [my agent] to do his thing.”

Our View:The Sabres certainly don't want to alienate their captain and a guy who scored 80 points last year, but there is also a chance that these negotiations could drag on a bit longer than hoped given that Jason is already under contract for this season. Pominville should be a point-per-game performer no matter when he signs his new deal, so draft him accordingly.

Jason Pominville and the Sabres are still discussing a new contract for their offensive star, but no deal is immanent according to Hockey Buzz.

Our View:Sources have reported that a deal for Pominville, who scored 80 points last year after a 34 goal, 68 point season in 2006, simply must be re-signed to a deal that keeps him happy as he is clearly the rising star of the Sabres offense. A deal should get done.
