The NHL set a deadline yesterday for Russia to agree to the International Ice Hockey Federation's agreement, meaning that any Russian players not already in the NHL would not be allowed to sign with and play for NHL teams in 2006-07. Russia has not yet agreed, thus players like Evgeni Malkin are left in limbo, according to the Post-Gazette. The Penguins are still hopeful that the 20-year-old Malkin, who was the second overall pick in the 2004 draft, will be able to play for them this coming season.
