Newsbreakers
October 4, 2008
Teemu Selanne continues to impress the entire league in his return to Anaheim. He needed just three shots and a little over 13 minutes of ice-time to record a hat trick in Duck's 4-1 win over the Coyotes.

Our View:That gives Selanne five goals in the preseason in limited action. Optimistically, if he can give the Ducks a full season, he could make a run at 40 goals and up to 90 points.
September 28, 2008
After signing a two-year contract earlier in the day with Anaheim, Teemu Selanne scored twice on the power play in the Ducks 5-4 shootout loss to the Canucks. Selanne missed his shootout attempt.

Our View:Obviously, Selanne's still got it. He had 23 points in 26 games a year ago and could eclipse 40 goals over an entire season.
September 28, 2008
The Ducks re-signed Teemu Selanne, a 10-time all-star, to a two-year deal Sunday according to TSN. The deal wasn't possible until the Ducks traded Mathieu Schneider to Atlanta on Friday, which created room under the salary cap.

Our View:Selanne is still an option in fantasy hockey, as proven by his 23 points in 26 games last season. It remains to be seen who his linemates will be, but count on him making an impact in your league this season.
September 20, 2008
Ducks right wing Teemu Selanne signed a tryout contract so he could join the team while they try to clear cap space, but as soon as that happens, he will consider signing a two-year deal, according to the Orange County Register.

Our View:Selanne is thinking about playing in the Olympics in 2010, which means he would need to be playing somewhere for that to occur. Selanne is still an option in fantasy hockey, as proven by his 23 points in 26 games last season.
September 19, 2008
Teemu Selanne still isn't officially a member of the Ducks, but with a deal to expunge the contract of Mathieu Schneider looking like it will happen, Selanne might show up and take a physical with the rest of the Ducks on Friday, according to the Orange County Register.

Our View:The Ducks seem intent on drawing some of the soap opera guys from the Mats Sundin situation out west. The bottom line is that Selanne will play this season, and that it will likely happen in a Ducks jersey, provided of course they can move the salary needed to sign Selanne.
September 18, 2008
Teemu Selanne may or may not end up a Duck after all, according to the Los Angeles Times. The Ducks are over the salary cap, and until they clear space they will not be adding any new payroll. "I don't intend to increase the pressure to make a deal by adding to payroll between now and the start of the year," GM Brian Burke said. We're aware that other teams have talked to Teemu and if that means that he can't wait for us, then that's what would happen."

Our View:The team has tried to move Mathieu Schneider to clear the cap space but his age (39) and salary ($5.75 million) have precluded any deals from occurring. We still believe that Selanne will be a member of the Ducks but are a bit uneasy that this is taking so long to work itself out.
September 13, 2008
Teemu Selanne will be returning to the Ducks this year, but the team won't sign him until they have freed the cap space to do so, according to the LA Times.

Our View:The Times mentions that a trade of Mathieu Schneider to LA would do the trick.
August 29, 2008
Teemu Selanne is still undecided whether or not to play or to retire this year, according to Sporting News Today. Ducks general manager Brian Burke hopes to talk with Selanne soon.

Our View:This is the same type of saga that the Ducks went through last year with Selanne. After missing much of the season Selanne signed with the Ducks and played in 26 games, though those 26 games were very productive. Selanne netted 12 goals and had 11 assists.
August 24, 2008
If you've been waiting patiently for Teemu Selanne to make a decision about playing this season, you are aware that his situation is tied into Toronto Maple Leafs captain Mats Sundin, according to the Orange County Register.

Our View:Assuming Selanne will return for a 16th season, the Ducks can't construct his contract until they free up salary cap space, presumably by shedding defenseman Mathieu Schneider and his $5.5 million contract. But suitors for Schneider hinge on what teams are left out of the race to sign Sundin. That is, assuming Sundin decides to play this season.
June 21, 2008
Teemu Selanne is yet to decide whether to return for a 15th NHL campaign, according to the LA Times. He needs to decide before July 1, as the team could move forward with off-season plans, and may not have the funds left to sign him.

Our View:He will turn 38 in July, and noted that he will either play a full campaign in Anaheim, or not at all.
May 22, 2008
Teemu Selanne scored 23 points in 26 regular season games this year, but the team will not wait for him to decide whether or not he wants to play again this coming season, according to the Los Angeles Times. Teemu was given until next month's NHL Entry Draft to make up his mind about whether or not he will hang up the skates.

Our View:Teemu can still bring it, and after all these years he still possesses the wheels of a much younger man. The good news is that you'll know whether or not to draft Selanne this year as his decision will be made long before any drafts for the coming season.
April 19, 2008
Teemu Selanne scored a goal and added an assist in the Ducks 5-2 victory over the Stars. Defensemen Sean O'Donnell also scored a goal and added an assists while Corey Perry scored his first goal of the playoffs.

Our View:The Stars were able to solve Marty Turco on this night and got offense from all over the lineup.
April 14, 2008
Teemu Selanne has a goal in two games for the Ducks, but they have managed only two goals in falling behind two games to none to the Stars.

Our View:Travis Moen has the other goal for the Ducks while Chris Kunitz, Chris Pronger, Mathieu Schneider and Ryan Carter have failed to register even an assist, and unless that changes in a hurry, the Ducks will find themselves in a hole they cannot climb out of.
April 5, 2008
Teemu Selanne scored two goals on Saturday including the game-winner in the Ducks 4-3 victory over the Kings. Selanne has managed to score 12 goals and 22 points over 25 games since he came out his fake "retirement", and given the strength of the Ducks he has to be considered one of the better right wing options in playoff pools.
March 19, 2008
The Anaheim Ducks put the Dallas Stars to bed by a score of 2-1 this evening, and Teemu Selanne helped the Ducks put both of those goals in net. Selanne is in the twilight of his career, but he is still a talented man with the stick and excels at making goals easy for others.
February 25, 2008
Teemu Selanne was named the NHL's first star for the week ending February 24th, according to a report in NHL.com. Selanne scored seven points, five goals and two assists, in three games. Selanne now has 11 points in 10 games thanks to five points in his last contest, and it appears that he can once again be counted on to provide a point-per-game the rest of the way for the Ducks.
February 24, 2008
In case you were wondering, Teemu Selanne still has something left in the tank. The winger notched his 20th career hat trick Sunday, adding two assists in for good measure. He now has five goals in his last three games and obviously should be started by anyone who owns him.
February 17, 2008
Teemu Selanne became the Ducks all-time leading scorer on Sunday with his 670th point in his seven seasons with the club. He already holds the franchise record with 314 goals. Selanne has gotten off to a bit of a rough start with four points in seven games, but it appears that he is starting to round into shape which marks him as a potential difference maker the rest of the season.
February 13, 2008
Teemu Selanne scored his first goal on Tuesday night as the Ducks won their fifth straight game with a 2-1 victory over the Avalanche. "I'm not 100 percent," said Selanne. "There's still a price to pay, but it's getting better. It's like training camp." Selanne should be counted on to provide roughly a point-per-game the rest of the way, so for those of you who were able to grab him off waivers, consider yourself quite lucky.
February 8, 2008
Teemu Selanne has contributed in both games since returning to the lineup earlier in the week. Selanne has registered an assist in each game since rejoining the Ducks.
February 5, 2008
Teemu Selanne made his season debut on Tuesday and picked up an assist on the Ducks' first goal of the night. He played 18 minutes, took four shots on goal and finished a plus-1, as the Ducks shut out the Isles 3-0. If you took a shot on Selanne, the wait is over, and the payoff beginning to happen.
February 5, 2008
Teemu Selanne says he's ready to play tonight, but it's up to coach Randy Carlyle to let him suit up. "You've got to ask the coach," Selanne said in the LA Times. "I'm ready to go. It's totally in his court... I'm excited. Very excited." Selanne came out of semi-retirement last month.
January 28, 2008
Teemu Selanne rejoined the Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks on Monday, singing a one-year contract. Along with Scott Niedermayer, Selanne is the second Duck to ponder retirement, only to join the team during the season.
January 26, 2008
On Friday, Teemu Selanne gave his strongest indication yet that he may return to action this season. "It could happen. I'm leaning one way. I'm not going to say which way," Selanne said, according to the LA Times. "Right now, I feel there's a very good chance I'm going to come back. When? That's the question. When I feel ready. Every week, I've been feeling better and better and better." At this point, it would be more surprising if he doesn't delay retirement and play this season. Look for an announcement soon after the All-Star break.
January 7, 2008
Teemu Selanne has begun a skating program to help him determine whether he's mentally ready to return to play this season. "I have been clear with Teemu," GM Brian Burke said, according to the LA Times. "He has to tell me he has a passion to return and play. If he does, we have great interest in bringing him back. But not unless he truly wants to return to the Ducks." Selanne has been out all season while considering retirement. He scored 94 points last season, so his return would be a boon to both the Ducks and fantasy owners who took a shot on him. If for some reason he's on your waiver wire, now's the time to grab him, in case he returns.
