July 13, 2008 TSN of Canada is reporting that Jaromir Jagr's days in the NHL are over. Avangard Omsk announced it has signed the former New York Rangers star and Jagr's agent, Pat Brisson, confirmed the move Friday afternoon. "Jaromir signed a letter of intent with the Avangard Omsk Hockey team of the Russian CHL on or about 3am EST this morning. I won't comment on the terms of the agreement at this time.It was a very difficult but personal decision to make in light of the many NHL teams interested in his services. He is grateful to the NHL and especially the Rangers in recent years." Our View:Jagr, in the twilight of a terrific career, played in all 82 games for the Rangers and scored 71 points, 46 being helpers. |

July 3, 2008 Jaromir Jagr is unlikely to re-sign with the New York Rangers, according to the New York Daily News. The team has offered him a one-year deal worth $6 million, but he has better offers to play elsewhere. "It doesn't look to me like I was their first choice. And I don't know if I was No.2 or No.3," Jagr said. Our View:Jagr is still a very good fantasy player, and that will only change if he takes a deal to play overseas. It is rumored that Omsk-Avangard, a team in the Continental League in Russia, has offered him a lucrative deal. |

June 29, 2008 Jaromir Jagr said he wants to play in the NHL for two more years, but he is unsure it will be as a member of the Rangers, and playing in Russia remains an option, according to NY Newsday. Jagr said, "I would be happy if it was a clear sky, but nothing is clear. I do not know where I will play next season. One day it looks like America, the second day back to Europe. I'm waiting for a signal." Our View:Until July 1, only the Rangers can negotiate with Jagr, and a one-year, $6-million offer is believed to be on the table. Avangard Omsk of the Russian Continental League is a likely suitor if he doesn't ink with New York. |

June 28, 2008 The reports from New York earlier this month indicated the Rangers were focused on keeping veteran winger Jaromir Jagr on the roster, but it now appears those efforts on are on the rocks, according to the New York Post. Our View:Jagr's agent, Pat Brisson, told The Post yesterday that Jagr would prefer to sign a new contract with the Rangers in lieu of reaching unrestricted free agency on Tuesday, he made it clear the winger is seeking a multi-year deal GM Glen Sather doesn't seem willing to offer. At this point, Jagr could be considering retirement. If the Rangers won't keep him on and a one-year deal is not something he wants, stepping away has be an option he is pondering. |

June 6, 2008 According to the New York Daily News, Jaromir Jagr is being heavily courted by Anatoli Bardin, the GM of the Omsk-Avangard team in Russia. Jagr appears to be waiting for is some sort of comparable affection from Rangers GM Glen Sather according to the report. Jagr told the Daily News again Thursday that his first choice is to return to the Rangers for next season but he is not sure whether the feeling is mutual. Our View:Jagr is officially a free agent having played out his time with the Rangers, but the Post reports general manager Glen Sather will sit down with Jagr's agent to commence negotiations this week following preliminary discussions held via the phone that have gone well. May 6, 2008 Long-time goal fiend and future Hall of Fame inductee Jaromir Jagr remains unclear on his future in the NHL as he enters free agency at the age of 36, according to the Associated Press. Our View:Jagr met with officials from the New York Rangers on Tuesday, their season recently ended by the Pittsburgh Penguins, and Jagr left with no certain plans for the future. "I don't have 30 teams to choose from," said Jagr. "First, I am going to talk to the Rangers. That's the number one option for me." Jagr went on to speculate on his future, stating, "I don't think I would sign longer than two years, just because of my dad. He asked me to come home in two years. He's helping build a new arena there (the Czech Republic) and he wants me to be there." Jagr would have been due, by contract incentives, an additional season that would have automatically kicked in had he either reached 84 total points on the season or been awarded a major NHL award. He finished with 71 points, thus he is now a free agent and hopes to find an opportunity to continue his already-illustrious NHL career. |

May 6, 2008 NBC hockey analyst Ed Olczyk said on Sunday that Jaromir Jagr had told him he wanted to play four more seasons in the NHL, according to the NY Times. Olczyk said, "Jagr would love to stay in New York. He told me that is his first choice, but he has some family issues back home in the Czech Republic." April 30, 2008 The Rangers trail the Penguins 3-0 in the series, but Jaromir Jagr still has hope the Rangers can come back, according to Newsday. Jagr said, "I got a very funny feeling about this series. It's not over yet. I truly believe we can change this. It's pretty tough to be down 3-0, but they have to win four games. They have to close it. Even a great team like the Yankees didn't hold a 3-0 lead. They were the best ever. We have a chance to make history." The Penguins are a perfect 7-0 in the playoffs so far. April 29, 2008 The Rangers are fighting to find an answer as they continue to come up short against the Pittsburgh Penguins, falling 5-3 tonight to take a 3-0 deficit in the Eastern Conference semifinal series. Two of the Rangers' top veterans tried to carry the load tonight as wingers Jaromir Jagr and Martin Straka each posted one goal and one assist. Our View:Straka wasn't a top point man for the Rangers during the season (41 total points), but he is one of few stepping up the challenge against the Pens. Jagr, as has been true for his entire career, is a man on the stick, now touting three goals and nine assists in the postseason. |

April 24, 2008 Jaromir Jagr mildly insulted Penguins' star Sidney Crosby, according to the NY Post. Jagr remarked, "With all due respect for Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, I don't think they are Mario Lemieux. I say that with all due respect because the game has changed. The gap between the best and worst players on a team today is very small. The gap between Mario and the rest of the guys when I was in Pittsburgh was so huge he was able to score 20 points in one series. I don't think those kids are able to do it. If I am wrong I am going to apologize and say, 'Great job.' There were games we won 6-5 that Mario scored six points. The next night, 5-3, he scored five. Crosby can do it once in a while but not every game like Lemieux. Some nights you can't tell who is first line and fourth line in this new NHL. Wayne Gretzky in the '80s was far better than anyone else. So was Mario in the '90s. You came to watch the individual because they were so much better. I love to watch highlights of when great players dominated. I wish I could do it. It's not working anymore." Our View:While that may be true, Jagr should not have compared Crosby to his legendary former Penguins' team-mate. Crosby is among the most dangerous scorers in the NHL today, and the Rangers do not need him playing with a chip on his shoulder in the upcoming series. |

April 23, 2008 After his worst regular season in 16 years (71 points) Jaromir Jagr has found his game in the playoffs as he currently leads the Rangers with eight points, one more than Scott Gomez. Our View:Well it's about time Jaromir. After costing many a fantasy squad a chance at a league title, the dormant Jagr has finally awakened in the NHL's second season and once again looks like the star he has been for over a decade.
