September 5, 2008 Martin Brodeur is 36 years old and coming off a season in which he led the NHL in appearances with 77 games. The question is will his workload be cut in the coming season given the perception that he wore down late in the year, according to the Our View:The team would like to play Brodeur a bit less, but given his excellence each year, and the fact that the team doesn't have a bonafide backup to turn to, and we wouldn't bet against Brodeur having an 11th straight season of at least 70 games played. He remains the top option in net on draft day. |

August 3, 2008 The NHL will limit the size of goalies knee pads and clavicle protectors in the coming season, according to the Our View:Basically, the league wants goalies wearing enough to protect themselves, but not so much that they can just pull up a recliner and stop every shot. It's not a major change, but a few more goals might be scored through the five-hole. |

June 12, 2008 Martin Brodeur won the Veinza Trophy on Thursday night awarded to the leagues best goaltender, according to Our View:This was the fourth Vezina of Brodeur's illustrious career, two behind Dominik Hasek's record of six awards. Brodeur picked up 15 first place votes to Evgeni Nabokov's 13 in a bit of an upset since Nabokov had two more wins (46), four less loses (29), a 0.03 GAA lead (2.14) and two more shutouts (six). So much for the numbers. Do you think any of the voters actually stay up late enough to even watch Nabokov play on the West Coast? |
