Our View: The deal essentially guarantees Nielsen a spot on the NHL roster. Nielsen is considered a very smart player, and he could bring value to a fantasy squad down the line. In 102 AHL games, Nielsen totaled 30 goals and 52 assists for 82 points.

"We're extremely happy that we have Jeff as a member of the Islanders organization for the next two years," Islanders GM Garth Snow said. "We know that Jeff will come to training camp in shape and ready to compete in September and we look forward to it." |

The Islanders made it to the playoffs after the 2006-07 season but went 35-38-9 in the most recent campaign. "It wasn’t going to work if two people aren’t on the same page. That’s why the meeting was healthy because we both realized that there were differences in philosophy," Snow explains. |
