Frans Nielsen, C Saturday 7/19, 9:57 AM CT
Frans Nielsen reached agreement with the Islanders Friday night on a four-year contract worth $2.1 million according to Newsday.

Our View: The deal essentially guarantees Nielsen a spot on the NHL roster. Nielsen is considered a very smart player, and he could bring value to a fantasy squad down the line. In 102 AHL games, Nielsen totaled 30 goals and 52 assists for 82 points.
Sean Bergenheim, F Thursday 7/17, 9:24 AM CT
Sean Bergenheim has signed a two-year deal with the Islanders worth $1.725 million, according to the Islanders.com.

Our View: The team was pleased to lock up the 24-year-old forward for another two years, and are excited to see him compete in training camp. He is part of the Islanders' youth movement, and could challenge 20 or more goals if he earns a favorable role with the club.
Jeff Tambellini, W Wednesday 7/16, 3:47 PM CT
The Islanders signed Jeff Tambellini to a two-year, $1.175 deal Wednesday, according to TSN.ca. The contract is one way. "We're extremely happy that we have Jeff as a member of the Islanders organization for the next two years," Islanders GM Garth Snow said. "We know that Jeff will come to training camp in shape and ready to compete in September and we look forward to it."

Our View: Tambellini doesn't deserve much attention in fantasy circles.
Mike Comrie, C Monday 7/14, 4:11 PM CT
Ted Nolan will not return as the head coach of the Islanders. There were "philosophical differences" with general manager Garth Snow, the AP reports. The Islanders made it to the playoffs after the 2006-07 season but went 35-38-9 in the most recent campaign. "It wasn’t going to work if two people aren’t on the same page. That’s why the meeting was healthy because we both realized that there were differences in philosophy," Snow explains.

Our View: Snow probably wants a team that can score more than two goals in a game. The Islanders were one of only two teams with fewer than 200 goals last season.
Rob Davison, D Thursday 7/10, 1:18 PM CT
Defenseman Rob Davison has been signed by the Vancouver Canucks, reports PA sports Ticker.

Our View: Davison's 2 points and 53 PIM last year means he shouldn't even be close to your fantasy radar.
Brendan Witt, D Wednesday 7/9, 7:03 AM CT
Brendan Witt has signed a two-year extension with the Islanders worth $6 million, according to the AP. Team GM Garth Snow said, "Over the last two seasons, Brendan has been a warrior for us on the ice and a great leader off the ice. We’re thrilled to keep him in an Islanders uniform."

Our View: The enforcer scored two goals and five assists over 59 games with the club in 2007-08, to go along with 51 penalty minutes. He has little fantasy outside of PIM leagues.
Joe Callahan, D Tuesday 7/8, 10:55 AM CT
Defenseman Joe Callahan has inked a one-year, two-way contract with the Islanders, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View: He spent last season with the Portland Pirates of the AHL, while finishing the regular season with a goal and 23 assists in 65 games. He was previously in the Mighty Ducks' system.
Yann Danis, G Wednesday 7/2, 4:31 PM CT
Goalie Yann Danis has inked a one-year deal with the Islanders, according to the AP. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Our View: The 27-year-old Danis has been out of the NHL the past two years, and recorded a 3-2-0 record with a 2.69 goals-against average in six games for the Canadiens back in 2005-06.
Mark Streit, D Tuesday 7/1, 7:25 PM CT
Mark Streit has inked a five-year deal with the Islanders worth $20.5 million, according to TSN.ca.

Our View: Streit was a top priority for the Canadiens, but the Islanders ultimately snatched him away. The talented defenseman scored 13 goals and 49 assists (62 points) over 81 games with Montreal in 2007-08.
