Moss underwent appendectomy.Saturday 5/3, 11:46 PM CT
Manager Terry Francona stated that Brandon Moss was sent to the hospital on Saturday night to have his appendix removed, according to the AP. Before the game against the Rays, Moss felt ill and was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital for an emergency appendectomy. He got out of successful surgery just after 11 p.m. EDT. Francona said, "He was feeling ill and the medical team felt that rather than just an abdominal flu, there was a possibility of appendicitis. We took him over there right before the game, which is probably a good idea. We were trying to be safe rather than sorry, and he’s having it removed."

Our View: Moss generated two homers and three RBI over six games with the Red Sox this season. We will update his health status when more details are known.

Gabbard said he became a “little fatigued” in his final inning. He did register six strikeouts and said, "I was happy with my outing."

Our View: Gabbard was placed on the 15-day DL last month because of a sore lower back. The Rangers have indicated that he could return to their rotation on Thursday (May 8) in Seattle.

Jorge De La Rosa made his first start of 2008 on Saturday night against the Dodgers, and was lit up for nine runs on nine hits over a mere four innings, with three walks and four strikeouts.

Our View: De La Rosa found his way into the rotation as Franklin Morales was sent down and Kip Wells is out of action on the DL, but could be on the bubble to get another start following tonight's performance. De La Rosa held a 5.82 ERA and 1.64 WHIP over 130 innings in 2007.

Monroe has strong nightSaturday 5/3, 9:34 PM CT
Craig Monroe started in center field in place of the injured Carlos Gomez (headache) on Saturday against Detroit, and took advantage of the playing time as he went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer.

Our View: Monroe is a talented player, but his fantasy value will be limited while fighting for playing time in a strong Twins' outfield with Carlos Gomez, Michael Cuddyer, and Delmon Young.

Curtis Granderson went 2-for-4 with one RBI and blasted his fourth homer of the season in Saturday's 4-1 loss to Minnesota.

Reliever Brian Bass took the hill in place of the injured Scott Baker in the fourth inning against Detroit on Saturday, and held on to nail down a win, as he held the Tigers scoreless over four innings, with only three hits allowed.

Our View: Baker was forced out of action due to his groin ailment. Bass is a reliever, and the team would likely replace Baker with another starter if he is to miss time. Bass held a 4.67 ERA and 1.56 WHIP over 17.1 innings, and doesn't merit fantasy consideration, despite his win today.
Verlander falls to 1-5 Saturday 5/3, 9:13 PM CT

Washington comments on catchers Saturday 5/3, 8:59 PM CT
Manager Ron Washington commented on his plans at catcher, according to MLB.com. Washington noted that he is planning to alternate Gerald Laird and Jarrod Saltalamacchia two games at a time. Laird will catch Sunday against the Athletics and Monday against the Mariners. Saltalamacchia will catch Tuesday and Wednesday, and then it will be back to Laird. Washington added, "I'm just trying to get them back-to-back at-bats. It was a matter of how I was going to do it. I'm trying to figure out how to get them both the most playing time. We've got two good catchers; I need to get two of them in there. We'll just see how it goes. At some point it will take care of itself."

Our View: Saltalamacchia got the call on Saturday, which was his fourth start in the last eight games. Laird is better defensively, but Saltalamacchia has more upside offensively. As expected, the Rangers will cycle them both in a platoon at the position.
Wandy's return pushed back Saturday 5/3, 8:51 PM CT
Wandy Rodriguez will likely miss another start because of the strained left groin that put him on the DL on April 20, according to MLB.com. Manager Cecil Cooper said, "He was going to throw a simulated game today, but we decided not to do it. The doctor said it was probably better if we hold off on it. We're going to wait and see how he is in a couple of days."

Our View: Rodriguez is eligible to come off the DL on Monday. Cooper was hoping he would be able to make a start against the Nationals during the three-game series at Minute Maid Park from Tuesday-Thursday, but now it appears Rodriguez will miss a third turn through the rotation. The Astros will most likely turn to veteran righty Brian Moehler to take Rodriguez's spot in the rotation.

Gomez said he did not sleep favorably on Friday night and showed up to the Metrodome with a headache on Saturday. He did not take batting practice and commented that he would spend the game "chilling" in the dugout.

Our View: Scott Ullger said, "We'll have to wait and see about Sunday. If he still has a headache, it might be better to give him Sunday and then he'll have Monday off, too. I'd sure like to have him in the lineup, but we'll let somebody else play Saturday." We will keep you posted on his playing status for Sunday and beyond.

Brent Lillibridge has been optioned to Triple-A Richmond, according to the AP. The team needed to free up a roster spot for pitcher Jo-Jo Reyes, and infielder Lillibridge was seen as expendable.

Our View: Lillibridge went 0-for-8 during his brief stint with Atlanta, and held no fantasy value prior to his demotion.

Shelton was called up on April 29th, and his current stay with the parent club is his longest big league stint since he was with Detroit in 2006.
Davis gets start in CFSaturday 5/3, 7:18 PM CT
Rajai Davis, recently claimed off waivers from the Giants, is starting in center field against the Rangers on Saturday night and is slotted ninth in the order.

Our View: Davis gives the team a third option in center field along with Ryan Sweeney and Chris Denorfia. He offers stolen base potential to AL-only owners but little else. In 19 games between San Francisco and Oakland this year, the speedster has score four run, recorded two RBI, five stolen bases and is hitting .172.

Our View: Molina holds a .289 average with 10 RBI over 26 games. His average is solid, but he still isn't worth starting in standard mixed leagues (unless you start two catchers).

Moylan, the team's top setup man, felt a "pop" in his elbow on April 11th during a save and, three days later, was told he would need season-ending surgery to alleviate the problem, a bone spur growing into his elbow ligament. However, Moylan reports he has not felt any discomfort while playing catch on three different occasions this week. Today, he will attempt to throw off the mound. There's no pain, no stamina issues, no strength loss, no lingering effects, which is a huge plus." As MLB.com writer Ian Browne notes, Schilling will be facing more than health as he attempts to return. Schilling is currently without a spot in the rotation and will have to earn his way back in to a starting role for a Sox system that is working. "There's a certain challenge to it, because I couldn't be farther from being a part of the team," said Schilling. "But I never looked at it as hard. It was a necessary part of what was happening." Thus far the veteran starter has passed every test, but he has yet to throw a pitch and has not specific timetable for those activities. We'll update, as always, when further events transpire.

"(It) just feels kind of funny... it hurts initially, then it feels like it's not really there," said Upton. "(It happens) when I kind of get out front (with my swing)... Tejada met the child during a visit with several Astros, all of whom were then hosted at the game as part of an effort with the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
