Our View: McAllister, a third-round pick in 2006, struggled last season. However, he has put those struggles behind him this season with a 5-2 record, 2.20 ERA and an outstanding groundball rate. He is starting to become a noticeable prospect. |

Our View: Richmond is the type of pitcher that breezes through the low minors, as he has plus command. His ERA currently stands at 3.07, and he has five walks in 44 innings. The former 31st round draft choice was acquired along with Joey Devine in the off-season from Atlanta for Mark Kotsay, and he has a long way to go in order to prove that his fringe stuff will be playable in the majors. |

Chris Tillman was terrific for Double-A Bowie on Thursday, throwing six scoreless innings for his fourth win. He allowed three hits, two walks and struck out nine.
Our View: The 20-year-old continues to impress, as he is dominating Double-A hitters. His ERA is down to 2.41 with more than a strikeout per inning through eight starts. His control is still an issue, but Tillman has incredible upside. |

Our View: Huff was a supplemental first-round pick in 2006, and he has not had any problems as a pro. This season he is 3-1 with a 2.14 ERA and 43/11 K/BB ratio in 46.1 innings. The Indians have several options ahead of him, but Huff could find himself in the majors by next season. |

Our View: The report was very critical of the Rangers for rushing Blalock back to the field and predicted that he likely wouldn't be back in the Rangers lineup until June 1st. Whether or not the report is accurate, Blalock did suffer a setback which puts his return next week in doubt. |

Our View: Tim left with a 7-3 lead but the Giants pen imploded blowing what seemed like a sure win. Lincecum now has a 1.92 ERA and 63 K in 56.1 IP in what is shaping up to be one of the most dominating seasons seen on the west coast in years. |

After a rain induced postponement Thursday night in Cincinnati, the Reds will keep their pitching schedule intact for this weekend against Cleveland. That means a marquee matchup: Edinson Volquez vs. Cliff Lee. Dusty Baker said after the rain out was made official that Matt Belisle, who had been scheduled to start today, would be skipped until Tuesday against the Dodgers.
Our View: Johnny Cueto will start Friday night against the visiting Indians. No makeup date was set for the finale of the scheduled four-game series. The last-place Reds had won the first three against the NL East-leading Marlins. |

Ryan Garko owners are desperately hoping the right-handed slugger can feed off his Wednesday night home run. The Indians' first baseman hasn't hit into much luck this season and at times has looked frustrated, even lost, at the plate.
Our View: Considering that Garko has only 17 strikeouts in 124 at bats -- and has walked 15 times -- his minor league peripherals would suggest his batting average should be much better than the current .234. Garko was 1-for-4 in Thursday's game against the A's with one RBI. Expect his boxscore lines to improve as the May turns to June. |

Jose Arredondo made his major league debut on Wednesday night - and didn't carry his Triple-A success to the next level. The right-hander pitched the ninth inning of a game where the Angels were down 5-1 - but ended at 6-1 after Arrendondo allowed a solo home run to the slumping Nick Swisher.
Our View: Before getting the major league phone call, Arredondo had allowed 12 hits and four runs in 17 innings of Triple-A work. The hard throwing righty also recorded 10 saves, struck out 15 and posted a palatable 2.12 ERA. His numbers are almost a mirror image of his 2007 campaign when he climbed from the Rookie League - through four levels - to Triple-A. Owners in deep AL-only leagues are advised to follow his bullpen work this year. |

Our View: In reality, all of Contreras starts were close to being qualifying efforts, and his peripherals this year far exceed his career splits. He has one complete game, a 3.35 ERA and 1.19 WHIP. Only his K Rate (4.70) lacks top-tier status. |

Our View: Myers now has only three quality works in eight starts and his 5.91 ERA, 1.58 WHIP, H/9 of 11.1, and a HR/9 of 2.53 are terribly disappointing.

Boof Bonser was slow to warm on Wednesday night. For those who watched the game it was obvious that the right-hander was overthrowing, and losing break on his dynamite curve ball. Bonser allowed four of his five runs in the first inning on a Matt Stairs grand slam, but finished strong, walking three and striking out three in six innings of work.
Our View: For the year, batters are hitting .359 in Bonser's first 30 pitches and .219 after that point. Get the Boof out of the first two innings, and he's tough to beat. |

Our View: Note, however, that he lost 16 points of average in the last two games -- which tells us that May averages are still volatile. His peripherals are not any different than a year ago, and the Mariners outfielder started slow in '07 as well. |

Our View: With Mike Jacobs hurt, he hopes to return by the weekend, the team could certainly use the bat of Helms in it's lineup. Unless Jacobs is out long-term don't expect Helms to be much more than a corner infield play in NL Only leagues. |

Our View: Byrnes is in the mother of all slumps toiling in a 6-for-62 streak that has dropped his average to .214. We all know that Byrnes will give it his all, but given that nothing is working right now it seems like a benching might be a good idea. Our View: Hensley was a solid starter last year with a 3.71 ERA and 1.34 WHIP at the backend of the Padres rotation, and though he could offer some value at some point, don't count on that being any time before the all-star break. |

Michael Barrett (strained elbow) could be sent out on a minor league rehab assignment as early as next week, according to MLB.com. "Michael is going to throw to the bases on Friday in Seattle to further test the elbow," Padres manager Bud Black said, "but he's making great strides. With the bat, he's swinging great, so there's no issue swinging the bat at all."
Our View: Josh Bard has really struggled at the plate barely hitting above .200 as he has been dealing with his own health concerns, so the Padres would welcome back Barret with open arms when he proves himself to be healthy. |

The pain in the groin continued Thursday while hitting off a tee, but Chipper isn't likely headed to the DL with this latest ailment. "I feel confident that we'll get this thing knocked out and I will get back in there in no time," Jones said.

Josh Willingham's recent setback with his back will likely keep him out of the lineup for at least a couple of weeks, according to MLB.com. Willingham is now dealing with a strained lower back in addition to a herniated disk. "In my opinion, I might have been a little overanxious," he said.
Our View: The "S" word, surgery, continues to not be in the lexicon of Willingham who says it won't be needed. However, another setback like this one will cause everyone to rethinking that position. Regardless, his breakout campaign has ground to a halt. |

Our View: Smoltz will throw his first bullpen session on Saturday when he will throw all his pitches, but today's results are very encouraging news for the potential HOFamer. If all goes according to plan, Smoltz hopes to start a minor league rehab assignment on next Tuesday or Wednesday. |

Our View: It's not clear if the Sox will leave Colon in the minors to build up some more arm strength, but they could call him up to fill the #5 spot in the rotation to make two starts next week. Stay tuned. |

Our View: Miller has allowed only two runs in his last two starts thanks to a huge improvement in his K/BB ratio (11 K, three BB). If he can continue to throw strikes he certainly has the stuff to be an effective starter even though he is inexperienced. |

Our View: Rios is now down to .255 thanks to a stretch of 12-for-67 (.179) in May. At this point you may want to give him a few games on your bench until he figures out what ails him since he is a huge drain on an offense at this point. |

Our View: Perkins is holding a rotation spot until Francisco Liriano and Scott Baker are healthy, but if he keeps pitching like this, maybe he will hang on for a while. Perkins is still a bit of a risk in mixed leagues though, so tread with caution. |

Our View: Wood now has 20 K in 20.2 IP with only four walks. As long as he keeps throwing strikes at that rate, there should be little stopping him from being one of the better closers in the NL, provided he can stay healthy of course. |

Our View: He is 5-1 and lowered his season ERA to 2.35. He has also racked up 26 strikeouts over his last three starts (20.1 innings). The former closer's fantasy stock remains on the rise. |

Our View: Sheets was 4-0 and held a strong 2.53 ERA and 0.97 WHIP over seven starts, but allowed 10 earned runs over his previous three. He only allowed four home runs over those seven starts as well, but surrendered three today. He should get back on track. |

Merkin Valdez is close to two years out from reconstructive right elbow surgery, so the club isn't about to take a chance with his health now. The Giants placed the reliever on the DL Thursday with a strained elbow on his throwing arm, which isn’t believed to be related to his surgery on September 27, 2006, according to the AP. Manager Bruce Bochy said, "We’ll find out what’s going on. We don’t want to put him back out there and risk a setback. This guy did have surgery not all that long ago. We want to err on the side of caution and let it clear up." The team recalled Alex Hinshaw from Triple-A Fresno to take his place on the roster.
Our View: Valdez is a hard-throwing reliever as he racked up 13 strikeouts over 16 innings this season. He also allowed 14 hits and seven walks, and his fantasy value was limited while fighting for playing time out of the Giants' pen. |

Alex Rodriguez is expected to run the bases at Tropicana Field before today's game, in what could likely be the final test before playing in rehab games, according to Newsday. A-Rod has been on the DL since April 30 due to a strained right quad. Manager Joe Girardi said, "The plan is to have him work out in front of us. I want to see it with my two eyeballs. You have to see where he's not favoring or he's not slower. I want to see him run at full speed."
Our View: The biggest concern is whether Rodriguez will have the quick burst of speed on the first two steps without reinjuring the quadriceps.
