Blum hits game winnerTuesday 9/2, 11:45 PM CT
Geoff Blum was hitless in four at-bats before coming up in the 11th inning, when he hit a two-run home run off of Cubs closer Kerry Wood that wound up being the difference in the Astros 9-7 win over Chicago.

Our View: Blum has 14 home runs, but his average is .230, and his on-base percentage is well below .300, so he has minimal fantasy value.
Soto has three hitsTuesday 9/2, 11:40 PM CT
Geovany Soto collected three hits in six at-bats, including his 21st home run of the season in the Cubs 9-7 loss to the Astros.

Our View: Despite the overreaching thoughts that Soto is the NL MVP, he has had a very good year, and fantasy owners should be thrilled to get the numbers he puts up.
Pence has big nightTuesday 9/2, 11:37 PM CT
Hunter Pence helped lead the red-hot Houston Astros to a 9-7 win over the Cubs by going 4-for-6 with a double and triple.

Our View: Pence has fallen off from his great rookie season and had a bad August, but is still someone to put in fantasy lineups.
Howry destroyedTuesday 9/2, 11:34 PM CT
Cubs reliever Bob Howry has had better days. He did not get a single Houston Astro out, but he did let four of them score in the sixth inning of the Astros 9-7 win.

Our View: Howry's ERA is now at 5.62, and he has no fantasy value right now, even in leagues that utilize middle relievers.
LaRoche hits one outTuesday 9/2, 11:31 PM CT
Andy LaRoche has been horrific while with the Pirates, but he did help their cause greatly by hitting a solo home run in the team's 3-2 win over the Reds.

Our View: LaRoche saw his average go from .165 all the way to .169. Wasting a roster spot on him is a poor idea.
Harang loses ... againTuesday 9/2, 11:28 PM CT
Aaron Harang lost his 15th game of the season, though he did not pitch poorly, surrendering just three runs in six innings as the Pirates downed the Reds 3-2.

Our View: Harang continues to be a somewhat popular fantasy player, even though he has lost five of his last six outings, and has generally been horrible in them.
Snell has solid gameTuesday 9/2, 11:26 PM CT
Ian Snell threw a good game for the Pirates, earning his sixth victory in the team's 3-2 win over the Reds. Snell gave up just one earned run in six innings of work.

Our View: Snell is wildly inconsistent, and if he could ever remedy that, he might be an asset in fantasy leagues. Alas, that does not seem likely, at least not in Pittsburgh.
Burrell continues to struggleTuesday 9/2, 11:24 PM CT
The Phillies beat the Nationals 4-0, but Pat Burrell went hitless in four at-bats while striking out twice and is really scuffling at the plate.

Our View: Burrell was benched on Monday, but it did not seem to do any good, and only time will tell if he can snap out of it.
Harris faltersTuesday 9/2, 11:20 PM CT
Willie Harris was awful for the Nationals, going 0-for-3 with three strikeouts in the Phillies 4-0 win against Washington.

Our View: Harris has been one of the few Nationals to have any fantasy value this season, and even then it was likely in NL-only leagues.
Hamels shuts down NatsTuesday 9/2, 11:18 PM CT
Cole Hamels tossed a great game against the Washington Nationals, hurling 7.1 innings of shutout ball while striking out six.

Our View: So it was against the offensively challenged Nationals, but that still doesn't change things. He picked up his 12th win of the year (and should have a lot more), and his third decision in a row.
Francoeur drives in threeTuesday 9/2, 11:14 PM CT
A three-run home run was the contribution made by Braves outfielder Jeff Francoeur in the Braves 16-14 win over the Marlins. He was 1-for-5 and scored twice.

Our View: Francoeur has been beyond bad this season, and his on-base percentage remains embarrassingly below .300. Fantasy owners should have moved on long ago.
Uggla goes 1-for-6Tuesday 9/2, 11:11 PM CT
Dan Uggla hit a home run in the Marlins 16-14 loss to Atlanta, but he still got only one hit in six at-bats, and continues to struggle.

Our View: It was nice of Uggla to throw a home run in there for fantasy owners, but he has gone straight down since the All-Star break, failing to hit for average or much power.
Johnson has big nightTuesday 9/2, 11:08 PM CT
Kelly Johnson and the Braves combined with the Marlins to score 30 runs and accumulate 36 hits in the Braves 16-14 win. Johnson had four of those hits and drove in four of the runs.

Our View: Just when you thought he was slumping, he explodes. Maybe he will continue on the upswing, but his limited numbers make it hard to justify keeping him on fantasy rosters.
Sanchez batteredTuesday 9/2, 11:04 PM CT
Anibal Sanchez has had a rough go of it since returning from the DL, and Tuesday was a prime example, as he surrendered six runs in just three innings to the Braves.

Our View: Sanchez has not been very good since his return from shoulder surgery. He has given up 14 runs in his last 14.1 innings.
Weeks gets four hitsTuesday 9/2, 11:01 PM CT
Rickie Weeks went 4-for-6 with a home run with two runs socred but the Brewers still lost to the Mets in extra innings, 6-5.

Our View: To show you how big this was for Weeks, just look at the fact that his batting average was raised six points, from .226 to .232. That rarely happens in September.
Beltran goes deepTuesday 9/2, 10:58 PM CT
Carlos Beltran had a sore knee, but he still managed to 2-for-3 with three RBI, as he launched a three-run shot off of Milwaukee's Manny Parra to help lead the Mets to a 6-5 win.

Our View: Beltran has five home runs in his last nine games, and if he continues on this pace, he'll have an outside shot at 30 home runs. As it is, he needs just one stolen base to be a 20-20 player, which fantasy owners love to see.
Parra strugglesTuesday 9/2, 10:54 PM CT
Manny Parra did not throw well, going five innings and allowing five runs in the Brewers 6-5 extra inning loss to New York.

Our View: Parra had been great his last two outings, but was really hurt by a three-run home run he allowed to Carlos Beltran.
Ortiz collects three hitsTuesday 9/2, 10:49 PM CT
David Ortiz got on base four times, with three hits in three at-bats plus a walk in the Red Sox 14-2 beat down of the Orioles. He also hit two doubles and drove in four runs.

Our View: Ortiz had seen his average drop below .250 on August 8, but has slowly raised it, and it now sits at .270, which should please fantasy owners.
Pedroia drives in fiveTuesday 9/2, 10:46 PM CT
Dustin Pedroia helped fuel the Red Sox to a 14-2 win over the Orioles by going 3-for-5 with a double, home run and fiver RBI.

Our View: MVP chatter is developing around the diminutive second baseman, and it is surely something people will have to consider after his recent tear. He has seven RBI so far in two September games.
Montanez continues to rakeTuesday 9/2, 10:44 PM CT
Lou Montanez has done nothing but hit for the Orioles since his call-up from the minors. And once again, even in a losing effort, he went 2-for-4 with a run scored in Baltimore's 14-2 loss to the Red Sox.

Our View: Montanez is absolutely a guy fantasy owners should be all over. He hasn't shown great power yet, but he's scored a bunch of runs and rarely strikes out, which is a good sign.
Lester gets winTuesday 9/2, 10:41 PM CT
Jon Lester won his 13th game of the year, allowing one run in five innings, though he did walk four batters as the Red Sox slaughtered the Orioles, 14-2.

Our View: Lester has been a steady presence in the Boston rotation the entire year, and his ERA dropped to 3.37.
Butler knocks in fourTuesday 9/2, 10:36 PM CT
Royals designated hitter Billy Butler had a big game, going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI to lead Kansas City to a 5-2 win over the A's.

Our View: Butler had a productive August in some respects, but walked just two times in 105 plate appearances. His plate discipline is iffy enough that he'll be streaky, so he is a risky fantasy option.
Barton shows lifeTuesday 9/2, 10:33 PM CT
A's first baseman Daric Barton was one of the few successful Oakland hitters, going 3-for-3 with two RBI in the team's 5-2 loss to Kansas City.

Our View: Barton has been a miserable acquisition for fantasy owners who wasted a draft pick on the much-hyped prospect. Maybe he'll turn it around, but this has been a season to forget.
Greinke wins 10thTuesday 9/2, 10:30 PM CT
Royals hurler Zack Greinke picked up his tenth win of the season in the team's 5-2 win against Oakland. Grienke went seven innings, striking out eight and allowing just two runs.

Our View: Greinke had won just two games since June 30, even though he had not pitched poorly, so continue to utilize him in fantasy leagues.
Konerko revivingTuesday 9/2, 10:26 PM CT
Paul Konerko has finally showed some signs of life recently, and in the White Sox 9-3 win on Tuesday, he continued to prosper, going 2-for-4.

Our View: Konerko has hits in six of his last seven games, and multiple hits in four of those games. He's likely available in many fantasy leagues, and taking a flier on him could prove beneficial in the final month.
Martinez hits first home runTuesday 9/2, 10:23 PM CT
Victor Martinez finally hit his first home run of the season in the Indians 9-3 win over the White Sox.

Our View: Martinez has been among the biggest disappointments of the year for fantasy owners, who undoubtedly took him with a high pick, expecting him to be among, if not the, best offensive catcher.
Danks has poor outingTuesday 9/2, 10:18 PM CT
White Sox hurler John Danks had a rough night, lasting just four innings while giving up eight hits and four earned runs while picking up his 8th loss of the year to the Indians, 9-3.

Our View: Danks has gone downhill fast, losing each of his last three starts, giving up 11 runs in his last 14 innings. Needless to say, that's a troubling thing for fantasy owners to deal with.
Clement strikes out three timesTuesday 9/2, 10:12 PM CT
After a nice August in which he hit over .300, Seattle backstop Jeff Clement started September where he had left off in July, going 1-for-4 with three strikeouts in the Mariners 6-4 loss to Texas. His average is now at .228.

Our View: Clement has shown little reason, other than one good month, to show he can be an effective contributor to fantasy leagues.
Byrd coolingTuesday 9/2, 10:08 PM CT
Marlon Byrd went 0-for-3 with a walk, but his Rangers teammates did not need him as they took down the Mariners 6-4 anyway.

Our View: Byrd now has six hits in his last 27 at-bats (.222), a pace far off what he was accomplishing just a couple weeks ago. Fantasy owners may want to jump off the Byrd bandwagon.
Feierabend gives up 11 hitsTuesday 9/2, 10:03 PM CT
It took the Texas Rangers just 5.2 innings to record 11 hits and score five times off of pitcher Ryan Feierabend in the Mariners 6-4 loss on Tuesday.

Our View: Feierabend hadn't been too bad in his last two starts, but that certainly wasn't going to last. He is not someone to consider for fantasy purposes, and few players in a Mariners uniform are.
Francisco strikes out sideTuesday 9/2, 9:59 PM CT
Frank Francisco picked up his third save of the season in the Rangers 6-4 win over the Mariners, and he did it in impressive fashion, striking out the side. Of the ten outs necessary to get his three saves, Francisco has recorded strikeouts on seven of them while allowing just a single base runner.

Our View: 14 of Francisco's 16 pitches on Tuesday were strikes, and he has been amazing in his very short period of time as a closer. If other owners in your fantasy league have not been made privy to Francisco's success, by all means pick him up.
Pena continues to get on baseTuesday 9/2, 9:55 PM CT
Rays first baseman Carlos Pena went 2-for-4 with a double in Tampa's 7-2 losing effort to the Yankees. It was his 19th two-bagger of the season.

Our View: Pena hasn't been much in the way of batting average for fantasy owners, but he's been making up for it with OBP. In August, Pena's was .450, and his slugging percentage was .639. He continued to roll in his first September at-bats.
Rodriguez hits 30th home runTuesday 9/2, 9:52 PM CT
Alex Rodriguez went 2-for-3, scored three runs and hit his 30th home run of the season for the Yankees in their 7-2 win over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Our View: Rodriguez has gotten five hits in his last nine at-bats, which fantasy owners have to like considering he hit just .243 in the month of August.
Garza takes lossTuesday 9/2, 9:47 PM CT
Matt Garza was not as good as he had been recently, giving up six runs, four earned, in five innings as the Rays were taken down by the Yankees, 7-2.

Our View: Garza's 11-8 record is not necessarily a reflection of how well he has pitched, as he had gotten the win in his last two decisions.
Mussina wins 17thTuesday 9/2, 9:44 PM CT
Despite giving up 10 hits, Mike Mussina held the Rays to just two runs in six innings while striking out eight and picking up his 17th win of the year in the Yankees 7-2 win.

Our View: Nobody could have seen this coming from Moose at the beginning of the year, and he has gotten better as the season has worn on. Only in April did he have an ERA over 4.00 for a month.
Renteria surgingTuesday 9/2, 9:41 PM CT
Edgar Renteria continues to hit for the Tigers, and went 3-for-4 with a stolen base in the team's 5-4 loss to the Angels.

Our View: Renteria did his part, and after hitting .294 in August, he started off well in September. A lot more was expected out of him by everyone this season, and getting his average to .270 is a good way to start the final month.
Figgins steals three basesTuesday 9/2, 9:38 PM CT
Chone Figgins was on base three times with a hit and two walks, and wound up stealing three bases in the Angels 5-4 win over Detroit.

Our View: Seeing as how Figgins has no power and drives in few runners, fantasy owners are counting on him to steal bags, so Tuesday was a good night.
Rodney gets lossTuesday 9/2, 9:36 PM CT
Fernando Rodney gave up a run in the top of the ninth inning that allowed the Angels to beat the Tigers 5-4. As you might expect, the inning involved two walks.

Our View: Rodney's control continues to be awful, and if he could manage better accuracy on his pitches, he could be dominant. But fantasy owners will have to see that to believe it.
Rodriguez gets save 54Tuesday 9/2, 9:33 PM CT
Francisco Rodriguez is now just three saves away from tying the all-time single season saves record, as he shut down the Detroit Tigers in the ninth inning of the Angels 5-4 win to pick up his 54th save of the year.

Our View: Rodriguez has been one of the top closers ever in a single season of fantasy baseball, and that trend continued Tuesday.
Mauer shinesTuesday 9/2, 9:20 PM CT
Joe Mauer did his part, but it still was not enough, as the Minnesota Twins were downed by the Toronto Blue Jays, 7-5. Mauer went 2-for-3 with a run scored and hit his 67th RBI.

Our View: Mauer pushed his batting average to .323, which is about what he's hit all season for fantasy owners.
Rios has big dayTuesday 9/2, 9:18 PM CT
Alex Rios went 4-for-5 with a home run and two RBI to help lead the Blue Jays past the Twins, 7-5.

Our View: Rios hit .319 in August, but with just two home runs. If there's one aspect to his season that has been a disappointment to fantasy owners, it's his 11 homers. Maybe he'll hit a bundle in the season's final month.
Perkins is averageTuesday 9/2, 9:15 PM CT
Twins pitcher Glen Perkins got a no-decision, but his team took the loss, 7-5, to the Blue Jays. Perkins went five innings and gave up four runs.

Our View: Perkins has struggled a bit lately, having given up eight earned runs in his last 12 innings pitched. He is a decent fantasy option, but his K/9 rate is average, as is his WHIP. Still, 12 wins are hard to ignore.
Purcey roughed upTuesday 9/2, 9:11 PM CT
One game after throwing eight innings of one run baseball, Blue Jays hurler David Purcey managed just three innings, allowing seven hits and five runs in Toronto's 7-5 win over the Twins.

Our View: Purcey is not someone for fantasy owners to consider adding to their roster. He has an ERA above 6.00, along with just two wins on the year.
Mather has broken wristTuesday 9/2, 9:07 PM CT
Cardinals outfielder Joe Mather broke a bone in his wrist, and will not play again this season, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Mather saw a hand specialist who recommended surgery on the wrist. Oddly, he did it while checking his swing. He should compete for a spot in the St. Louis outfield next spring.
Upton scratchedTuesday 9/2, 9:04 PM CT
Outfielder Justin Upton was scratched from the lineup on Tuesday as he is dealing with headaches after he got hit in the head with the ball on a pickoff attempt, according to DBacks.com.

Our View: Cardinals reliever Brad Thompson attempted to pick off Upton but the throw was low, and hit Upton in the noggin as he slid back in head first.
Percival activatedTuesday 9/2, 9:01 PM CT
Rays closer Troy Percival was, as expected, activated from the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday, according to the AP.

Our View: Percival will once again be the team's closer after being out with a knee injury since mid-August.
Cubs will skip Harden's turn in rotationTuesday 9/2, 8:53 PM CT
In an effort to keep him healthy, the Chicago Cubs are giving hurler Rich Harden a few extra days of rest, and he will skip his next start, according to Cubs.com.

Our View: Harden has been brilliant all season, and his overall ERA on the year is 1.99, and he is averaging 11.47 strikeouts per nine innings pitched.
Hamilton joins RBI clubTuesday 9/2, 8:43 PM CT
Rangers center fielder Josh Hamilton hit a two-run single, and his RBI total for the season is now 120, meaning he joins Rafael Palmeiro, Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez as the only Rangers to knock in that many runners this decade, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: Hamilton continues to amaze with the numbers he has put up. Fantasy owners could not possibly have imagined they would be getting his much production out of the talented lefty.
Clemens arraignedTuesday 9/2, 8:40 PM CT
Koby Clemens, son of The Rocket, was arraigned and a court date was set for December 2 after he and two teammates were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, according to MLB.com.

Our View: Apparently, an altercation involving 50 people took place at a restaurant called Mac and Bob's, although the details are not yet known.
Damon nominatedTuesday 9/2, 8:28 PM CT
Johnny Damon has been named the Yankees nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award, given to a player each year for their contributions off the field, according to Yankees.com.

Our View: Damon has turned in a very good season for fantasy owners, putting up a .316 average, 25 stolen bases and 12 home runs. While those numbers are surely appreciated, his work off the field is far more important.
Fukudome does not playTuesday 9/2, 8:17 PM CT
Cubs outfielder Kosuke Fukudome was given the night off on Tuesday, as he is just 16-for-87 (.184) in his last 29 games, according to MLB.com.

Our View: It was time for fantasy owners to cut bait with Fukudome a while ago. He is offering little to no production recently.
Guillen still hurtingTuesday 9/2, 8:12 PM CT
Carlos Guillen may not be able to return for the Tigers on the weekend as he continues to experience back pain, according to Tigers.com.

Our View: Guillen has not had a great year for fantasy owners, but he still has the ability to hit for some power. It is unknown when he will be able to go.
Cueto to start SaturdayTuesday 9/2, 7:57 PM CT
Johnny Cueto is expected to return to the rotation on Saturday to face the Cubs. Cueto has been sidelined since late August because of soreness behind his elbow. It was later diagnosed as a posterior strain caused by a hyperextension.

Our View: There has been no official announcement made, but the team will probably bump Ramon Ramirez back to Triple-A.
Guthrie to be skippedTuesday 9/2, 7:51 PM CT
The Orioles will skip Jeremy Guthrie's next start, this according to the team website. The move is precautionary. The staff wants to make sure that they don't overwork their opening day starter.

Our View: Lance Cormier appears to be the most likely candidate to replace Guthrie.
Sheets wants to start SaturdayTuesday 9/2, 7:41 PM CT
Ben Sheets told JS Online that he expects to take his next turn in the rotation. That start would be Saturday against San Diego. Sheets left Monday's game against the Mets in the fifth inning after throwing just over 50 pitches with left groin tightness.

Our View: Sheets said he still felt the tightness on Tuesday but expected it to improve enough to make his next start. Expecting and Sheets actually taking the mound are two different things.
Gallardo throws sim inningsTuesday 9/2, 7:37 PM CT
Yovani Gallardo, who tore the ACL in his right knee early in the season, threw two simulated innings on Tuesday at Miller Park, this according to JS Online.

Our View: After being written off this season, Gallardo could pitch again. However, if he does it will be in relief.
Laffey's season overTuesday 9/2, 7:32 PM CT
Manager Eric Wedge said that Aaron Laffey had a spot in the Indians' rotation waiting for him once he healthy enough to return, but today's news on Laffey's elbow injury trumps Wedge's intentions. Laffey was not part of the September callups today. The reason he wasn't on that list is elbow inflammation that sprouted up in his last two starts at Triple-A Buffalo. According to the Indians' team website Laffey will miss the rest of the season.

Our View: So much for the six-man rotation that Wedge had planned.
Flores injuredTuesday 9/2, 7:27 PM CT
Jesus Flores was attended to at home plate for the better part of 10 minutes during Tuesday's game against the Phillies. The Washington catcher had to be taken off the field in a ambulance after a collision with Chase Utley at home plate. Flores suffered some sort of leg injury.

Our View: There is still no word on what kind of leg injury Flores suffered. We will update you when the information becomes available.
Phillies undecided on Sunday starterTuesday 9/2, 6:58 PM CT
Cole Hamels, who would be on normal rest for Sunday's showdown with the Mets on ESPN's "Sunday Night Baseball," could miss the game if he throws over 100 pitches tonight against the Nats. The Phillies team website reports, that starting Sunday and then Sept. 12 against Milwaukee would give Hamels five straight starts on four days' rest, something he hasn't done since last season.

Our View: Dubee and manager Charlie Manuel are considering Hamels and J.A. Happ. Sunday's starter is listed as "TBA," an indication that it won't be Kyle Kendrick and the staff simply won't know until after tonight's game.
Niese's contract purchasedTuesday 9/2, 6:52 PM CT
The Mets purchased the contract of left-hander Jonathon Niese from Triple-A New Orleans on Tuesday. Niese is starting tonight against the Brewers.

Our View: This is a one-and-done start for Niese. The Mets have three days off in the next two weeks and will be able to sport a four-man rotation. Expect Niese to return to New Orleans after the game.
Can Sabathia win the MVP or CY?Tuesday 9/2, 6:46 PM CT
With CC Sabathia earning his ninth Brewers victory without a loss lowering his ERA to 1.43, he has been the hot topic in the debate for National League Most Valuable Player and the Cy Young award race.

Our View: No player in the league has made more of an impact on his team than Sabathia has, but can a player win the MVP when he's been in the league for less than half a season?
Quentin out of the Tuesday lineupTuesday 9/2, 6:40 PM CT
Carlos Quentin is not in the starting lineup on Tuesday. The left fielder is still suffering from a sore left forearm.

Our View: Jerry Owens get's his first start in center field with Ken Griffey Jr. also ailing.
New Jaba RulesTuesday 9/2, 6:30 PM CT
New York Newsday reports that General manager Brian Cashman said Tuesday that Joba Chamberlain will not start next season in the Yankees' rotation.

Our View: According toe Cashman, Chamberlain hasn't thrown enough innings this season, so it could mean another midseason starting point for everyone's favorite prospect.
Jones starts againTuesday 9/2, 5:52 PM CT
Adam Jones is in the lineup for the second straight game since being activated from the disable list on Monday. The outfielder is hitting second behind behind Brian Roberts and playing his usual center field.

Our View: Jones' return hurts Jay Payton's fantasy value. Time to cut the veteran loose.
Burrell expected back TuesdayTuesday 9/2, 5:44 PM CT
Pat Burrell, who did not start yesterday, did show a good sense of humor before the game. "I'm still available to come in defensively late in the game," Burrell told the team website. Burrell is of course typically replaced late in games for defensive purposes.

Our View: The left fielder is expected to start tonight in Washington.
Giese actiated from the DLTuesday 9/2, 5:39 PM CT
THe Yankees activated Dan Giese from the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday. The Yankees will continue to use Giese in relief, not in a starting role like earlier in the season.

Our View: Giese was on the disabled list with right shoulder inflation.
Matsui activated from DLTuesday 9/2, 5:17 PM CT
Kazuo Matsui was activated from the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday. The second baseman was rehabbing a back injury.

Our View: Mark Loretta will continue to start at second base, but Matsui will be available for spot duty if needed.
Beltran to start TuesdayTuesday 9/2, 4:49 PM CT
Carlos Beltran, who was questionable for tonight's game in Milwaukee with a sore knee, is in the starting lineup.

Our View: Beltran got tangled up with the home plate umpire while trying to score from second base in Monday's 4-2 win over the Brewers. With tonight's start, any concerns about the center fielder's health should dissipate.
Buchholz to return this season?Tuesday 9/2, 4:45 PM CT
The Boston Globe made a big deal of the one year anniversary of Clay Buchholz's no-hitter, but did qualify the report with his recent progress on the farm. Buchholz struck out 10 in his last regular-season start at Double-A Portland, and he will make at least one start in the Eastern League playoffs.

Our View: There is a chance that the right-hander could return to the big club this year, but much will have to do with his continued success.
Lowe recalled by M'sTuesday 9/2, 4:38 PM CT
Mark Lowe was recalled by the Mariners from Triple-A Tacoma today. He has not been with the big club for the last week due to a foot injury.

Our View: Lowe has appeared in 50 games this year and has one save, but his value rests in deep formats.
Salty done for the seasonTuesday 9/2, 4:33 PM CT
The Rangers announced that catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia will miss the rest of the season with a strained right forearm muscle, this according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: Salty is headed to see Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion, never a good sign.
Broadway back in Chicago Tuesday 9/2, 3:57 PM CT
Lance Broadway has been brought back to Chicago following a brief stint with Triple-A Charlotte, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View: Broadway allowed 10 earned runs and 17 hits over 10.2 innings with the Sox this season, and will not likely be trusted in crucial situations as a middle reliever in September. Chicago is currently tied with Minnesota for the AL Central division lead.
Fields recalled to Chicago Tuesday 9/2, 3:51 PM CT
Josh Fields has been recalled from Triple-A Charlotte, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View: Fields blasted 23 homers with the Sox last season, but struggled in the minors, and only hit .182 over 22 at-bats (no homers) with the club this season, and should stick with Crede at third base as long as he remains intact in September.
Burton activated from DL Tuesday 9/2, 3:26 PM CT
Jared Burton has been activated from the DL following his bout with a strained lat, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View: Burton only allowed 12 earned runs over 48.1 innings of relief, with 50 strikeouts and a 1.28 WHIP. He should resume his role as a setup man, and should be penciled back into lineups in leagues that favor the position.
Zimmerman won't be recalled Tuesday 9/2, 3:17 PM CT
Jordan Zimmerman won't be recalled by the Nationals as he is dealing with biceps tendinitis, according to Nationals.com. GM Jim Bowden said, "We felt it was better that we handle him like we did with John Lannan, where we shut him down. Jordan will be in big league camp. He has a chance to make our rotation out of Spring Training."

Our View: Zimmerman was the Nationals' top pitching prospect this season, and the team does not see the benfit of calling him up now, with the risk of aggravating his injury. He could crack the Nationals' starting rotation as early as 2009.
Guzman and Arroyo share award Tuesday 9/2, 3:12 PM CT
Cristian Guzman and Bronson Arroyo share the NL Player of the Week award, according to the AP. Guzman led the league in batting with a .552 average (16-for-29), with one homer and six RBI.
