NEWSBREAKERS NASCAR
Nationwide: Braun fastest regularFriday 4/18, 5:08 PM CT
Colin Braun was second fastest in Happy Hour and the fastest among the Nationwide Regulars. His speed was 102.882 miles per hour.

Our View: Braun is going to be a much better value this week than on many ovals, and he has a bargain basement salary cap.
Nationwide: Pruett wins Happy HourFriday 4/18, 5:05 PM CT
Scott Pruett posted the fastest time in Happy Hour, with a speed of 102.896 miles per hour.

Our View: Pruett is in the car that beat him last year and this time, Juan Montoya is not in the race to crash him at the end. He should be heavily favored to win.
Nationwide: Leffler damaged in Fox crashFriday 4/18, 4:46 PM CT
The initial contact did not look like much between Joe Fox and Jason Leffler , but the No. 0 hit the No. 11 on the right front wheel. Look for Leffler's team to put in some overtime before Saturday's qualification begins.

Our View: Leffler has been one of the best Nationwide regulars all season, but with so many road ringers in attendance this week, caution dictates leaving him on the sideline.
Nationwide: Fox crashes again in HHFriday 4/18, 4:43 PM CT
Joe Fox made contact with Jason Leffler in precisely the same spot he hit Scott Wimmer—only this time, he did not get away with limited damage.

Our View: The No. 0 Johnny Davis car was destroyed, leaving them to qualify a backup—assuming they have one at the track, that is.
Nationwide: Stan Barrett withdrawsFriday 4/18, 4:28 PM CT
Stan Barrett is not behind the wheel of the No. 31 entry fielded by his son at Mexico City. He's turned the wheel over to Kenny Hendrick.

Our View: Hendrick has 12 career Nationwide starts, with a career best of only 18th. No reason has been given for Barrett's withdrawal.
Nationwide: Fernandez quits earlyFriday 4/18, 4:23 PM CT
Adrian Fernandez quit practice for the Corona Mexico 200 early and jumped on a plane to fly to Long Beach where he will compete in the American LeMans series race on Saturday.

Our View: Fernandez will also skip qualification on Saturday and have to start from the back of the pack, but he should be able to come to the front. Start him with confidence.
Nationwide: Reutimann crashes in Happy HourFriday 4/18, 3:52 PM CT
David Reutimann spun and crashed in Happy Hour in exactly the same spot as Landon Cassill in the first practice session.

Our View: Reutimann barely hit the wall, but it appears the team should be able to fix the left quarter panel. They'll have a lot of work to do, however.
Nationwide: Wimmer scrapes FoxFriday 4/18, 3:51 PM CT
Scott Wimmer rubbed alongside Joe Fox in the twisty part of the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Happy Hour and damaged his car. The team will affect repairs and send it back out.

Our View: This has been a busy session and some top names have been dinged. Wimmer's car should be o.k., but the road ringers might be the best values this week.
Nationwide: Edwards tags the No. 49Friday 4/18, 3:31 PM CT
Carl Edwards made contact with the No. 49 of Robert Richardson and damaged his nose. The car is repairable, but Edwards will miss valuable practice time.

Our View: This could be a tough weekend for Edwards. He finished fourth in Mexico City, but was in the 30 at both the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and Watkins Glen International.
Nationwide: Cassill crashes in practice 1Friday 4/18, 3:22 PM CT
Landon Cassill found the wall in the first practice session for the Corona Mexico 200. He spun out of the final turn before the entry to pit road—one of the fastest segments of the track.

Our View: Cassill is racing for James Finch this weekend and he destroyed that car. He's going to have to be careful from here on, because it's a long way to send back to Charlotte for another mount.
Nationwide: Braun fastest regular in practice 1Friday 4/18, 2:47 PM CT
Colin Braun was the third fastest driver in the first practice session for the Corona Mexico 200 at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez and the fastest among the Nationwide Regulars. His fastest speed was 89.868 miles per hour.

Our View: Braun could actually be called a road ringer as well since his background is in the sports cars.
Nationwide: Pruett fastest ringer in practice 1Friday 4/18, 2:43 PM CT
Scott Pruett posted the second fastest lap among the road ringers at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, posting a speed of 89.800 miles per hour.

Our View: Pruett's speed was second fastest overall and he nearly won this race last year before he got spun out by his teammate Juan Montoya.
Nationwide: Ky Busch leads practice 1Friday 4/18, 2:37 PM CT
Kyle Busch posted the fastest lap in the first practice session for the Corona Mexico 200, with a speed of 89.661 miles per hour around the Mexico City road course.

Our View: Busch is not known as the greatest road racer in the field and he skipped all three Nationwide series road races last year, but he has momentum on his side with back-to-back wins this season in the junior series.
Marlin to attempt Aarons 499Friday 4/18, 1:59 PM CT
Sterling Marlin will attempt to qualify a James Finch entry at Talladega SuperSpeedway for the Aarons 499.

Our View: Finch fields competitive cars on the restrictor-plate SuperSpeedways and Marlin is likely to be a better value than his salary cap suggests.
Franchitti will not run the Indy 500 eitherFriday 4/18, 1:38 PM CT
While speculation that Sam Hornish Jr. might attempt to run the Indy 500, the media also wondered aloud if Dario Franchitti might have the same plans. Chip Ganassi quickly quelled that rumor and said the Scottish freshman will remain in the No. 40 cockpit for the Coke 600.

Our View: None of this year's rookie class has set the world on fire, and Franchitti is no exception. With an average finish of 33.1 in the first eight races this season, however, there is no place to go but up.
Hornish will not run the Indy 500Friday 4/18, 12:38 PM CT
With speculation rampant that David Stremme would become a replacement for the Sam Hornish in the Coke 600—freeing the struggling open wheeler a chance to run the Indy 500—Roger Penske called from Europe to report that would not happen.

Our View: Hornish needs all the track time he can get, and slowly but surely, he will become an increasingly good value. He still has a long way to go before fantasy owners want to consider him for their roster.
