Papis to race No. 70?

Max Papis is the latest driver rumored to go into the No. 70 Gene Haas ride, but don't look for him to run a full time schedule. He is expected to be the driver on NASCAR's two road courses.

Our View: With Jeremy Mayfield out of the No. 70, and the team continuing to search for a full time driver, it gives them a great opportunity to put a road ringer in the car. Papis will perform as well as the car is capable.

R Gordon 3rd in stage three

Robby Gordon finished third in stage three of the Central European Rally, which allowed him to move up to sixth overall.

Our View: Currently, Gordon is only five minutes behind Stefan Peterhansel. This could be a chance for him to win the international event.

Kvapil gets 'Dega sponsor

Northern Tool + Equipment will sponsor Travis Kvapil in the Aaron's 499, marking the first time this sponsor has participated in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series.

Our View: Robert Yates Racing has a great record on the restrictor-plate SuperSpeedways because they make a ton of power. A strong run this week may help them attract another sponsor and slowly the season comes together.

Eight men in: Talladega

In the event that qualification is rained out, the following drivers will be in the Aaron's 499: J.J. Yeley , Dave Blaney, Ken Schrader, Dario Franchitti, A.J. Allmendinger, Patrick Carpentier, Jon Wood and Kyle Petty.

Our View: That would leave Joe Nemechek, John Andretti and Sterling Marlin on the outside, looking in.
