Nationwide: Stewart on pole at 'DegaFriday 4/25, 6:45 PM CT
Tony Stewart will lead the Aaron's 312 to the green flag after recording a speed of 185.308 mph in qualification to win the pole.

Our View: A race at Talladega can be won from anywhere in the pack, but it's always nice to start up front.
Truex wins Happy HourFriday 4/25, 4:00 PM CT
Martin Truex Jr. posted the quickest average speed in Talladega at 186.924 during 11 laps.

Our View: His single fastest lap of 191.428 was fifth best on that chart, which gives him a good balance for the weekend.
Waltrip fastest in 'Dega Happy HourFriday 4/25, 3:58 PM CT
Michael Waltrip posted the fastest single lap in Happy Hour at Talladega, with a speed of 192.754 mph.

Our View: This time, however, TrackPass reported average speeds, and Waltrip was only 16th quickest at 182.414. Of course, drafting in a 43-car field is much different than practice.
Nemechek fastest 'go-or-go-home' driverFriday 4/25, 2:44 PM CT
Joe Nemechek posted the fastest lap in Friday's first practice session among the drivers required to make the show on time. His speed was 186.572 mph.

Our View: The pole very well may go to one of these "go-or-go-home" drivers, and there is a reason they call him 'Front Row Joe,' but all of these men are laboring at a disadvantage in race trim.
Harvick fastest in practice 1 at DegaFriday 4/25, 2:40 PM CT
Kevin Harvick posted the fastest lap in the first practice session, with a speed of 195.936 mph.

Our View: Unfortunately, TrackPass was unavailable for average speeds, but in general practice times are meaningless on this wild card track.
J Gordon has best 'Dega driver ratingFriday 4/25, 11:26 AM CT
Jeff Gordon has earned NASCAR's best Talladega Driver Rating at 98.5, a formula that combines several strength-based stats.

Our View: Very little actually predicts a driver's finish at Talladega, but looking backward Kurt Busch and Tony Stewart are second and third with this ranking system, and those drivers have been the class of the field in the last three years.
Ku Busch has best avg. run at 'DegaFriday 4/25, 11:25 AM CT
Kurt Busch has the best running position at Talladega SuperSpeedway, with an average track position of 11.333 during the last six races.

Our View: The ability to stay near the front of the pack is one of the best ways to stay out of trouble, which is why Busch has an average finish of 5.8 during that same span.
Stewart not leaving in 2009, says GibbsFriday 4/25, 8:36 AM CT
Tony Stewart has a contract through 2009 at Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR), says team leader J D Gibbs, and the team hopes he renews to stay even longer.

Our View: Of course, that doesn't mean that behind the scene negotiations aren't taking place. Only time will tell how this plays out.
Gordon 51st in rally stage fiveFriday 4/25, 8:27 AM CT
Robby Gordon broke a rear hub in stage five of the Central European Rally, and in his words: "Our chances on this rally are over but I'm really proud of this effort. We are competing against the best off-road teams in the world and they knew we were here!"

Our View: Previous leader Stefan Peterhansel experienced trouble as well, so this would have been a great opportunity to make up ground, but instead Gordon finished more than an hour off the pace.
Nationwide: Bowyer fastest Claim JumperFriday 4/25, 8:20 AM CT
Clint Bowyer posted the fastest speed among the Claim Jumpers—Cup regulars who interlope into the Nationwide series. His top speed of 191.616 mph was set in Happy Hour.

Our View: The Nationwide Regulars have a chance to gang up on the Cup drivers. If they will draft together to the exclusion of the invaders, a Nationwide Regular could win.
Nationwide: Leffler wins Happy HourFriday 4/25, 8:15 AM CT
Jason Leffler posted the fastest time in Happy Hour at 194.342, as six drivers in this session beat Steve Wallace's morning speed of 191.996.

Our View: Once again the Nationwide Regulars looked good on the whole, posting the eight quickest times. Mike Bliss was second fastest, while Marcos Ambrose backed up his third from the morning session.
Nationwide: Wallace leads first practiceFriday 4/25, 8:12 AM CT
Steve Wallace posted the fastest speed in the first practice session Thursday at Talladega, posting a 191.996 mph on his fifth lap around the track.

Our View: Wallace led a contingent of Nationwide Regulars, including Jason Leffler in second and Marcos Ambrose in third.
