Stremme to replace FranchittiSaturday 4/26, 10:41 PM CT
David Stremme will replace Dario Franchitti in the Aaron's 499 while that driver recuperates from a broken ankle suffered in Saturday's Aaron's 312.

Our View: The crash was violent and the lower part of the driver's door was crushed, so this comes as no surprise. Stremme should do a good job in the No. 40, however.
R Gordon third in rally stage sixSaturday 4/26, 6:12 PM CT
Robby Gordon continues to run strong in the Central European Rally. He one his second special stage and finished third overall in stage six.

Our View: He is 11th, one hour and 21 minutes behind Carlos Sainz overall, but with one more strong stage, he could easily climb into the top 10.
Riggs going to the backSaturday 4/26, 6:05 PM CT
Scott Riggs will be heading to the back of the pack after qualifying 19th because the team was forced to change an engine.

Our View: It really doesn't matter where a driver starts, and the new Hendrick Motorsports engine is likely to be strong.
Nationwide: Green finishes fifthSaturday 4/26, 5:31 PM CT
Mark Green finished fifth in the Aaron's 312 for the first time in his last 212 races.

Our View: In this week's Nationwide "Green Flag" story, we suggested Green could finish among the top 10 if he avoided the "Big One" crash. He did—and he did.
Nationwide: Stewart wins 'DegaSaturday 4/26, 5:09 PM CT
After finishing second six times in Cup and once in Nationwide competition, Tony Stewart finally won at Talladega after holding off a charge by Dale Earnhardt Jr and crew.

Our View: Can Stewart sweep the weekend? Now that he's broken through, it would be hard to bet against him.
Nationwide: Lepage triggers 'Big One'Saturday 4/26, 3:49 PM CT
There is a reason for NASCAR's rule not to pull directly onto the track. Kevin Lepage drove up in front of a speeding pack and collected nearly the entire field.

Our View: This size of this accident is reminiscent of the 2002 Aaron's 312, which left only three cars on the lead lap. This race is filled with wild cards.
Franchitti injured?Saturday 4/26, 3:36 PM CT
Following his hard crash at the beginning of the Aaron's 312, Dario Franchitti was transported to a local hospital for observation. He appeared visibly shaken after contact with Larry Gunselman.

Our View: The contact was right on the driver's side door and the worst damage looked to be near the bottom, so Franchitti is most likely concerned about his lower extremities.
Nationwide: Wimmer cuts tire on lap 19Saturday 4/26, 2:46 PM CT
Moments after Dario Franchitti cut a tire and triggered a multi-car crash, another favorite Scott Wimmer cut a tire and seriously damaged his Chevrolet.

Our View: Could this be the start of major tire problems? There are many ways to lose a race on the restrictor-plate SuperSpeedways.
Nationwide: Franchitti, Bowyer crash earlySaturday 4/26, 2:33 PM CT
Dario Franchitti exploded a tire on lap 10 of the Aaron's 312 and collected Clint Bowyer. Both cars were destroyed in the contact.

Our View: They may still work on Bowyer's car and try to salvage some pints, but Franchitti's machine took a heavy blow on the driver's side door.
Stewart on outside pole at 'DegaSaturday 4/26, 2:28 PM CT
Tony Stewart qualified on the outside of the front row for the Aaron's 499, which makes him the highest starter among drivers with a legitimate chance to win on Sunday.

Our View: Nothing against Joe Nemechek, but the pole sitter qualified with a special setup and won't be prepared for the start of the race. Stewart should lead the pack handily before the end of lap one.
Blaney, two others going homeSaturday 4/26, 2:26 PM CT
Dave Blaney , J.J. Yeley and John Andretti are the three drivers going home this week as the slowest of the "go-or-go-home" drivers.

Our View: This is particularly heartbreaking for Blaney, who qualified and finished third at this track last fall.
Front Row Joe on pole at 'DegaSaturday 4/26, 12:44 PM CT
Joe Nemechek laid down an impressive lap of 187.386 mph to beat Tony Stewart for the top spot. There's a reason why they call him 'Front Row Joe.'

Our View: Of course, he was in 100 percent qualification trim, and will drop like stone during the race, but for 24 hours, this is the happiest team in Talladega.
