Our View: Smith started the season in the shadow of the open wheel stars, but his stock car experience is carrying the day so far.

Raines in No. 08 at Lowe's

Tony Raines will attempt to qualify the No. 08 for the Coke 600.

Our View: Raines was also behind the wheel of this car at Martinsville, but he failed to qualify. It is unlikely he'll succeed this week either.

Sauter in No. 70 at Richmond

Johnny Sauter will climb behind the wheel of the No. 70 for the second time this season.

Our View: Ken Schrader will return to the car later in the season, and these two are the most likely candidates to fill in until a full time driver is found.

R Gordon eighth in final rally stage

Robby Gordon finished eighth in the final stage of the Central European Rally. He was 10th overall, one hour and 25 minutes behind Carlos Sainz.

Our View: Then he hopped on a plane and flew to Talladega, and finished a very respectable 11th after starting shotgun on the field.
