N'Wide: Wallace gets career best finishFriday 5/2, 11:20 PM CT
Despite his altercation with Kyle Busch in the final laps, Steve Wallace earned his career best finish. His fifth-place finish was his second top-10.

Our View: At the start of the season, we flagged Wallace often for being crash prone, but it looks like he is developing more car control.
N'wide: Busch, Wallace tussle at endFriday 5/2, 8:58 PM CT
Kyle Busch and Steve Wallace made the finish of the Lipton Tea 250 exciting. The No. 66 tapped Busch and the two swapped spots twice on the final lap.

Our View: Busch ultimately finished third while the altercation cost Wallace one more position. He finished fifth.
N'wide: Hamlin wins at RichmondFriday 5/2, 8:55 PM CT
Denny Hamlin had a perfect Friday. After winning the pole for Saturday's Crown Royal Dan Lowry 400, he took tires at the end of the Lipton Tea 250 and won the Nationwide race.

Our View: He has momentum on his side and he could pull off the weekend sweep.
Going homeFriday 5/2, 6:06 PM CT
Ken Schrader, Scott Wimmer, Jon Wood and John Andretti were the four slowest drivers in qualification for the Crown Royal Dan Lowry 400 and will have to watch the race from the couch.

Our View: It’s a pity that the No. 40 missed the race because it's going to make Dario Franchitti's chances of winning Rookie of the Year (ROTY) honors even longer.
Hamlin wins Richmond poleFriday 5/2, 6:03 PM CT
Denny Hamlin thrilled the hometown fans after winning the pole for the Crown Royal Dan Lowry 400 with a speed of 126.198 mph.

Our View: He was already one of the favorites and this only solidifies his standing.
N'wide: M Green qualifies 4thFriday 5/2, 4:23 PM CT
Mark Green laid down an impressive lap of 124.659 in qualification and rolls off the grid fourth.

Our View: This veteran driver, racing for an underfunded team, has been one of our dark horses for the past two weeks. It looks like he getting some momentum on his side.
N'wide: Kahne wins Richmond poleFriday 5/2, 4:22 PM CT
Kasey Kahne won the pole for Friday night's Lipton Tea 250, driving the Lipton Tea Dodge. Hmm…

Our View: The front of the pack is dominated by Claim Jumpers with Carl Edwards rolling off second and Denny Hamlin in third. Each of those drivers have a good chance to challenge Kahne for the victory.
Nationwide: Keselowski spins in qualsFriday 5/2, 3:34 PM CT
Brad Keselowski made qualification interesting. He spun across the finish line to complete his first lap and barely clipped the wall.

Our View: The damage is so superficial that the team may choose to ignore it and keep his starting position. He should still be considered a respectable dark horse contender.
Edwards signs contract extensionFriday 5/2, 2:28 PM CT
Carl Edwards re-signed a three-year contract with Roush-Fenway Racing, and now he can concentrate on staying in the top 12 in points.

Our View: Other details of the contract were not disclosed, but Edwards was very happy with the outcome. A happy driver is a fast driver.
Earnhardt wins Richmond practiceFriday 5/2, 12:05 PM CT
During a weekend when all eyes are focused on Dale Earnhardt, Jr and his attempt to snap a two-year winless streak, Dale Earnhardt Jr. posted both the fastest speed (123.412 mph) and the quickest average speed (119.863 during 45 laps).

Our View: We've said several times that each race is his next best opportunity to win. It could come this week.
Nationwide: Green wins morning practiceFriday 5/2, 11:56 AM CT
Mark Green posted the fastest single lap in the one and only practice session for the Nationwide series. His top speed was 124.792, set early in the session.

Our View: Following his solid run last week at Talladega, Green hopes to carry that momentum to Richmond. The veteran might just be one of the best dark horses again this week.
Nationwide: Cassill notably fastFriday 5/2, 10:31 AM CT
Landon Cassill was notably fast in the one and only Nationwide practice, posting the fourth best speed of 124.235 mph.

Our View: The teenager is in strong equipment, driving the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports car, but speed is not likely to be the issue. Cassill's inexperience will probably cause him to make a mistake on the track.
Nationwide: Kahne fastest Claim JumperFriday 5/2, 10:25 AM CT
Kasey Kahne posted the second fastest time in Friday's Nationwide practice, with a speed of 124.418 mph.

Our View: That makes him the best Claim Jumper this week, and since Mark Green is a long shot, Kahne is the best among drivers with a legitimate shot at winning.
