Evernham looking to retire from NASCARSaturday 11/22, 12:33 PM CT
Ray Evernham has sold most of his remaining equity in Gillett-Evernham Motorsports and plans to retire from NASCAR, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: He is negotiating to buy a small dirt track in North Carolina and get back to grass roots racing; this speaks volumes about what NASCAR has become from where it was only 15 years ago when he was wrenching the No. 24 car of Jeff Gordon.

Nemechek and team part waysFriday 11/21, 11:22 AM CT
On the hells of announcing they would reduce to a part time schedule, Furniture Row Racing will buy out Joe Nemechek's remaining contract and part ways, according to a team press release.

Our View: "Just like the reduced schedule announcement, this buyout of Joe's contract has nothing to do with his on-track performance," said team president Joe Garone. "But our contract with Joe for 2009 was for a full schedule and we're not able to fulfill that part of the deal."
Kvapil snaps 25-race top-10-less streakFriday 11/21, 11:19 AM CT
Aided in part by good fuel mileage, Travis Kvapil capitalized by finishing seventh in the Homestead 400, which snapped a 25-race streak without a top-10.

Our View: Kvapil was one of the best values several times during the season, but the team still needs to work on consistency before anchoring your fantasy team.
Newman among long list of disappointed short timersThursday 11/20, 5:45 PM CT
Ryan Newman fought an ill-handling car to finish 21st, according to a team press release.

Our View: "The way that we ran tonight, I guess I'm glad that the season is over. We really struggled tonight, and that's not how I wanted this last race to go," Newman said.

Matt Kenseth has signed a multi-year extension with Roush-Fenway Racing, according to a team press release. The length or terms of the contract were not divulged.

Our View: Kenseth has been with the organization 11 years—which makes him the senior statesman.
McMurray goes out with a bangThursday 11/20, 11:43 AM CT
The season ended with a bang for Jamie McMurray, he told reporters in post-race media availability: "there's not really anything different. If you looked back and paid attention to our team, for the last three months, we've had just really fast cars and didn't have much to show for it. And for the last two months, we've had things just kind of go our way. Obviously, the last month has just been incredible."

Our View: The real test is going to be whether this momentum can survive the off-season. As talented as Roush-Fenway Racing is, we're betting on "yes."
