Carpentier, Elliott slowest "go-or-go-homers"Thursday 5/8, 10:04 PM CT
Patrick Carpentier and Bill Elliott—two "go-or-go-home" drivers—posted the 44th and 43rd fastest speeds.

Our View: Elliott has a past champion's provisional at this disposal, however, and doesn't need to worry about qualifying. Kyle Petty posted the 38th fastest speed, making him the driver most likely to go home.
N'Wide: Hamlin wins final practiceThursday 5/8, 9:57 PM CT
Denny Hamlin posted the fastest single lap in the final practice session with a speed of 177.479 mph.

Our View: This session witnessed a balanced number of Claim Jumpers and Nationwide Regulars. David Stremme was second fastest, Mark Martin was third, Brad Keselowski was fourth and Clint Bowyer was fifth.
Earnhardt wins second practiceThursday 5/8, 7:22 PM CT
Dale Earnhardt, Jr posted the fastest average among those drivers who are not required to qualify on time. His speed of 174.408 mph during 27 laps also included the second fastest single lap of 178.640.

Our View: Johnny Sauter actually had the fastest average speed of 174.668 during seven laps, but since he was almost certainly working on qualification throughout the session, his times were skewed.
N'Wide: Leffler fastest regular in practice 2Thursday 5/8, 7:18 PM CT
Jason Leffler was the fastest Nationwide Regular in the second practice session at Darlington, posting a speed of 175.823 mph.

Our View: That put him sixth overall, behind five Claim Jumpers.
N'Wide: Hamlin fastest in practice 2Thursday 5/8, 7:15 PM CT
It was 'the revenge of the Claim Jumpers' in the second practice session at Darlington when Denny Hamlin (178.348) led Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards, Mark Martin and David Ragan to a sweep of the top five spots in terms of fastest single lap.

Our View: Experience counts at Darlington and the Cup regulars are expected to continue their dominance into the Diamond Hill Plywood 200.
Allmendinger fastest in second practiceThursday 5/8, 7:12 PM CT
"Go-or-go-home" driver A.J. Allmendinger posted the fastest lap in the second practice session at Darlington, posting a speed of 178.679 mph.

Our View: Look for Ward Burton's 1996 record to get shattered Saturday night as two-thirds of the field was faster than 173.797 with two practice sessions still to come.
10 drivers beat Darlington track recordThursday 5/8, 5:00 PM CT
On new pavement, 10 drivers—including A.J. Allmendinger and Casey Mears with identical 173.914's, beat the old track record of 173.797 mph, which was set by Ward Burton in March 1996—the last time this track was repaved.

Our View: Two "go-or-go-home" drivers, Joe Nemechek and Dave Blaney were among the 10 fastest, and they will have to duplicate that feat in qualification.
Ky Busch wins first Darlington practiceThursday 5/8, 4:57 PM CT
The Cup drivers got their chance to run at Darlington Thursday afternoon and the fastest lap was posted late in the session by Kyle Busch. His top speed was 175.522 mph.

Our View: The three best drivers from last week picked up where they left off: Denny Hamlin was second fastest at 174.885 and Dale Earnhardt Jr. was third at 174.780.
N'Wide: Bowyer fastest Claim JumperThursday 5/8, 4:38 PM CT
Clint Bowyer posted the fastest single lap among the Claim Jumpers during the first practice session at Darlington Raceway at 172.306 mph.

Our View: Bowyer has the point lead based on both consistent and strong finishes. He is a place-and-hold driver who threatens to win every week.
N'Wide: Keselowski wins first practice 1Thursday 5/8, 4:35 PM CT
Brad Keselowski paced the first Nationwide practice of the weekend, posting the single fastest lap of 172.432 mph.

Our View: Keselowski has been one of the strongest Nationwide Regulars several times this season and he has the patience to do so again at Darlington.
