N'Wide: Strange bedfellowsSunday 7/20, 3:21 PM CT
Last week's news that Paul Wolfe would rejoin Fitz Motorsports was not only strange to the media—it's odd for Paul Wolfe as well, but it's in the best interest of Josh Wise and Michael Waltrip Racing.

Our View: Wolfe is actually receiving his paychecks from Michael Waltrip Racing to give their development driver Wise the best possible chance to learn. Later in the season, Waltrip will also supply a pit crew when Fitz Motorsports makes a move to Toyota.
N'Wide: Buescher gets career best at GatewaySaturday 7/19, 11:59 PM CT
James Buescher recorded a career best result at Gateway when he crossed the finish line seventh in the Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers 250.

Our View: This is remarkable for two reasons: Buescher crashed in practice and started on the back row and this strong finish came in only his fourth career start. His worst results of 18th came in his first start at Phoenix this spring, but otherwise he has swept the top 15.
N'Wide: 3 Teenagers in top 10 at GatewaySaturday 7/19, 11:54 PM CT
Joey Logano (18 years old) finished second, Landon Cassill (19) finished sixth and James Buescher (18) finished seventh in the Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers 250. The Youth movement is still alive and well.

Our View: Logano has now finished second to Carl Edwards in two consecutive races, but the best show of the night may belong to Buescher who crashed in practice and had to come from shotgun on the field.
N'Wide: Edwards wins at GatewaySaturday 7/19, 11:39 PM CT
Hometown hero Carl Edwards drove away from the field in the closing laps and won the Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers 250.

Our View: This was Edwards' second win of the season and notably, his other victory came on the similarly flat Milwaukee Mile.
Ky Busch 6th in Kentucky Truck raceSaturday 7/19, 8:34 PM CT
Kyle Busch overcame late-race contact to finish sixth in the Built Ford Tough 225 at Kentucky Speedway.

Our View: It wasn't the result he wanted, but he challenged for the lead on several occasions until a tap from Ted Musgrave sent him out of the groove and into the side of another car. On Sunday, he's off to Iowa Speedway to run in the ASA Late Model series.
N'Wide: McMurray wins Gateway poleSaturday 7/19, 5:39 PM CT
Jamie McMurray came to Gateway as a "go-or-go-home" driver and he left nothing to chance. He won the pole with a speed of 133.101 mph.

Our View: …and we red flagged him this week. Still, he needs to keep the car under him for all 250 miles on Saturday night.
N'Wide: Bliss fastest in Gateway HHFriday 7/18, 9:31 PM CT
Mike Bliss posted the fastest single lap in Happy Hour for the Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers 250 at Gateway International Raceway.

Our View: Bliss was only 12th fastest in the first session, but conditions in Happy Hour are much closer to what the drivers will face in the race.
N'Wide: Logano fastest in Gateway P1Friday 7/18, 7:22 PM CT
Joey Logano posted the fastest single lap in the first practice session for the Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers 250 with a speed of 132.704 mph.

Our View: This is Logano's first race back since Milwaukee, where he finished second. That is a similarly flat track to Gateway and the teenager is in the No. 20, so look for them to run at the front of the pack all night Saturday.
Logano frontrunner for No. 20Friday 7/18, 7:05 PM CT
Joey Logano appears to be the frontrunner for the No. 20 car, which will be vacated by Tony Stewart at the end of the season. "For me personally, Joey is a candidate for anything," Joe Gibbs said. "I think we have a total of 32 tests he's been in Cup cars. I don't think there is one incident ever where he hasn't stood out."

Our View: Ascending to Cup this quickly would seem to be a daunting task, but the teenage sensation has proven to be extremely mature during his short time on the track.
Bartelli named CMO at PettyFriday 7/18, 6:46 PM CT
Michael Bartelli has been named Chief Marketing Officer at Petty Enterprises, which field teams for Bobby Labonte and Kyle Petty.

Our View: At least Bartelli has a background in racing. He comes to the company after a stint at Millsport—a sports marketing agency—and Action Performance—makers of racing collectibles.
