NEWSBREAKERS NASCAR
Ky Busch wins All-Star poleFriday 5/16, 6:53 PM CT
Kyle Busch was the last driver to take to the track and he watched as several drivers made a series of mistakes. He learned from them, however, and put together the complete package to win the pole for Saturday night's All-Star race.

Our View: This qualification system forces teams to combine fast laps on the track and pit stops and winning it means that both the driver and team are fast. Busch remains the hottest driver on the circuit.
Sadler on Showdown poleFriday 5/16, 5:37 PM CT
Elliott Sadler will lead the field to the green for the All-Star Showdown hooligan race. His top speed was 185.014 mph.

Our View: This race is a sprint and track position is critical. After pacing practice earlier in the day, Sadler is in a good position to win this event and advance into the big show.
Biffle quickest in All-Star practiceFriday 5/16, 2:06 PM CT
Greg Biffle Greg Biffle posted the quickest average speed during All-Star practice, with a speed of 177.527 during 25 laps.

Our View: Biffle still has to be through of as a long shot, however, with a career best finish of only 13th in 2006.
Martin wins All-Star practiceFriday 5/16, 1:59 PM CT
Mark Martin posted the fastest single lap in All-Star practice, posting a speed of 181.751 mph.

Our View: Martin has the car to win, but one has to wonder if NASCAR's "nice guy" has the aggression needed at the very end. Of course, he was plenty hungry in 1998 and 2005 when he won twice previously.
Hornish notably fast in Shootout practiceFriday 5/16, 12:37 PM CT
Sam Hornish was notably fast in Shootout practice for the All-Star race. He posted the fifth fastest single lap at 180.711 mph), but more importantly, he also had the second quickest average speed of 177.21 during 44 laps.

Our View: We've been hard on Hornish this season, but he is progressing in his switch from the light weight Indy cars to the heavier stockers.
Sadler wins Shootout practiceFriday 5/16, 12:29 PM CT
Elliott Sadler posted the fastest single lap in All-Star Shootout practice, with a speed of 182.256 mph. He also had the quickest average speed at 178.011 during 14 laps.

Our View: It's one and done for the hooligan racers. They will qualify this evening and that will be their last opportunity to touch the car, so Sadler has to be happy with his speed.
