Kahne wins All-Star race

Kasey Kahne needed the fan vote to advance, and he stayed out of old tires before the final segment—but he held off Greg Biffle to win the All-Star race.

Our View: This is only the third time in history that a transfer driver has won and it's the first time a driver who was voted in by the fans won.

Kahne gets Fan Vote, races All-Star

Kasey Kahne finished fifth in the Showdown, but the fans don't care. They voted him into the All-Star race.

Our View: Normally, we wouldn't put much stake in the fan vote driver's chances, but Kahne has more experience than either A.J. Allmendinger or Sam Hornish Jr. and will probably finish ahead of them.

Hornish finishes second in Showdown

Sam Hornish had the fastest car at the end of the Showdown, but settled into second behind A.J. Allmendinger and advances to the All-Star race.

Our View: Last year, both Johnny Sauter and Martin Truex Jr. finished in the top 10 after advancing, but fantasy owners shouldn't expect the same results from these two. Still, this has to be a boost to their confidence.

Allmendinger wins Showdown

A.J. Allmendinger won the Showdown by a narrow margin over Sam Hornish Jr. and advances into the All-Star race.

Our View: A few weeks ago, Allmendinger was without a ride while Mike Skinner gave the team a baseline. That energized this kid and A.J.'s been solid since his return.

Schrader in No. 33 for 600

Saturday 5/17, 1:31 PM CT

Ken Schrader will attempt to qualify the No. 33 Richard Childress Racing (RCR) entry for the Coke 600.

Our View: Being a super-sub might not be too bad, because Schrader is getting to run in some better equipment than he has in recent seasons. Of course, he still needs to qualify on time, which he failed to do for Chip Ganassi Racing (CGR) at Richmond.
